*Elizabeths POV*
"Hey Mama." I say as I enter my schools Nurse's Office.
Mama June is not actually my real mom. But she might as well be.
She's my neighbor, and I pretty much lived in her house when I was younger. The thing about having two lawyers as parents, is that they never truly act as parents. But I had Mama, and that was okay.
Mama's everything I never had. And since she could never have kids, I was hers.
Having your neighbor as your nurse, has its upsides- I can get out of any class all the time, but she also knows and hears everything. So I'm not surprised when she stares at me with sad eyes.
"That Austin boys back, ain't he?" She says. Mama already knows of course, she just wants to hear it from me.
"Mhmm." I say. I open the freezer and find dozens of icepacks- but all the way in the back, I see it. Ice cream.
Mama keeps ice cream in there at all times. For emergencies only she told me once. This was defiantly an emergency .
"What's up with you?" Mama inquires staring intently at me. She'll figure out soon enough. You can't keep things a secrets from her for too long.
"Nothing." I spoon and exceptionally large amount of ice cream in my mouth.
"Nothin". Mama June says twirling her black hair with her fingers. It's straightened today as always, which is a shame since she has the most gorgeous curls I've ever seen, well seen once. She says she straightens it because it's more professional. I think who ever told her that was filled with BS.
"You know I saw that Alex boy you've been hanging around with." She fixes her purple glasses that match her scrubs.
"He's fist was covered in blood. Said he needed to go." She looks at me for and explanation. I sigh.
"He got into a fight with wall after he saw Austin."
Her eyes widen, but she doesn't press me for more.
I eat my ice cream, until I see a binder on her desk filled with school supplies, there's a post it on top with the name, Mason.
I go and open it. Mama June doesn't care. It's just stupid school supplies but I keep searching it.
"His parents haven't picked this up yet?" I ask.
"Nope. I just don't think they can bare it right now."
And than I find something. It's a piece of loose paper, that's covered in stains and is yellow with age. I gasp silently. Mama doesn't notice.
