Jack knew The Doctor wouldn't want to talk right now, he'd chat about it later tonight.
"So..Urm...I was uh.. Gonna get something to eat, we're on Earth right?"Jack asked trying to change the subject.
"Yes" The Doctor said simply. So off Jack went to go find some kind of distraction, and food of course, he was starving.-Later that night-
The Doctor had gone to his room to sleep, he was quite exhausted.
Jack awoke to horrible inhuman screaming and ran to The Doctor's room to see what had happened, and found only The Doctor screaming and flailing about in his bed, with his eyes closed? Jack ran over to him and pinned him down to stop the flailing and tried to shake The Doctor awake, he gasped as if he hadn't taken a breath for quite some time, opened his eyes and tried to sit up only to find Jack straddling him holding his wrists against the bed.
"You had a nightmare" said Jack, slowly letting go of The Doctor's wrists and getting up to sit on the bed beside him.
"Is everything alright?" That's when the tears came, The Doctor sitting there bawling like a child. 'You're so weak, you couldn't save her. So weak. Pathetic. The only reason he's here is because he pities you.' The voice inside The Doctor's head had been saying these things ever since he lost Rose. "Doctor? Are you okay? What's the matter?"
"I, I couldn't save her, Jack."
"I tried and I tried but nothing worked" Jack wiped The Doctor's tears away with his thumb.
"It's not your fault, there was nothing you could've done" This seemed to soothe The Doctor a bit because he stopped crying and was now sitting cross legged and staring at his hands in his lap.
"If you're okay I'm going go back to bed, just knock if you need me again okay?"
"Okay." Jack got up to leave but The Doctor grabbed his shirt and tugged on it like a child wanting it's mother. He turned around.
"Can you please stay?" The Doctor's voice was thick with sleep and hoarse from crying.
"of course" How could Jack resist? Getting in bed with the man he had oh so many fantasies about? no. no, no, no, no, no. Jack thought.
The Doctor needed a friend right now, Jack couln't take advantage of him while he was in this vulnerable state.
He climbed up onto the soft mattress and lied down facing The Doctor, placing his arm around him gently and stroking the timelord's hair gently. It was only a matter of minutes before The Doctor was asleep and Jack could finally rest.
