BEEP.
"Hey, Alex. My dad didn't show up to my play again. And I don't have a ride home. It's raining and I'm tired, can you please just come pick me up?" I said into my phone and ended the call. It was the fourth time I called Alex and he didn't pick up.
I was starting to worry that I would be stranded here all night. It was getting dark out, even darker and gloomier with the clouds. Ordinarily I liked when it rained, but that was when I was inside, warm and snuggly with a blanket. Right now I was on the side of the road in front of my school's theater. I'm an actress, I do plays. This was one of my favorites so I pleaded my father to stay sober enough to go. But of course I couldn't rely on him. He was probably drunk and passed out in some bar.
And it's not like I could just ask my mother for help because she was too busytrr4 with work. She was the one that managed the bills, while I managed the house. And my father, well, he spent money. My mom is never home. She's always somewhere off in another country or sort. She sends money every month. Enough to feed us and pay for all the electricity, water, and such. I did the groceries and cooked. I was alone for most of the time. That is, unless I invited Alex over or went to his house. We were rarely apart.
I looked down the street. Nothing but sopping wet black pavement. Beads of water ran down my face and I decided to give up any hope of getting a ride home. I would just walk home if it wasn't for my house being all the way out of town.
I pulled out my phone again to try calling Alex again when I heard my name. I wasn't sure if it was real or just my overactive imagination creating what I wanted to hear right now. But I began to hear foot steps like some one was running.
"RY!!" the voice said, slowly getting closer.
I turned around and to my surprise I saw a soaking wet Alex running towards me in the rain.
"Alex?" I whispered in disbelief.
As he got closer I realized that it was indeed my boyfriend that just appeared in the rain.
"Hey! What are you doing here?" Alex said as he got within two feet of me.
He hugged me and swarmed me in wet warmness. I could feel his long black hair on my head as he pulled me in tighter.
"Honestly I could say the same for you. Why didn't you get my calls?" I asked.
"I had a gallery walk today. I stayed after to help clean up and I turned off my phone so it wouldn't make any noise. I didn't know you called." Alex said, his voice breaking.
I hugged him tighter, finally feeling safe.
"Candy is coming to pick me up, you can come home with me." Alex explained.
Candy was one of Alex's moms. He had two mom's because they were gay. They had a sperm transplant and Alex was born from Loinell, his other mom. He doesn't know his real father and has no urge to. But we often joke that he's actually a European king and longs for Alex to be the next prince.
Candy and Loinell were like my aunts. I even called them Auntie Candy and Auntie Loinell. Alex calls them both mom or by their names occasionally. Alex also had a little sister that they made as well. Candy birthed her instead.
His sister was about seven and all that a tiny sister should be. Her name was Samantha but we all called her Sammy. She wanted to be a artist just like her older brother, the amount of pieces of paper of lines, dots, and circles from her is more than I could ever count.
I know that he has an older brother as well, but I'd forgot his name because I haven't seen him since his last visit. He lives all the way in the U.S. and had a girlfriend.
"Thank you." I said quietly, breathing in his cologne once again.
"Of course, babe. What was I supposed to do, just leave you stranded here in the rain?" Alex said.
His voice was to die for. He used to live in the States but he moved here so he had an adorable american accent.
"I love you, Alex." I found myself saying.
"I love you, Ryo." He squeezed me again.
