Some Truths
When Daniel and Kait returned four hours later, they found Harne fast asleep on the sofa. Kait smiled as she walked past kicking Harne's foot, bringing him awake with hand on sword. Seeing who it was, he relaxed.
"We've got a meeting set up with Razor and Ice tomorrow night if you care to join us," Kait stated. Taking off her long overcoat, she threw it over the arm of a sofa, before taking a seat across from Harne.
Harne could not hold his surprise as he stared into the green flecked hazel eyes. "Why do you need them?"
"We have contact with Thomas, remember? We know why you're in the city and who you need. And since the Underground went into hiding with the martial law, not many people can contact them, even you." Daniel replied, joining his sister.
"Besides, we like to keep in touch with our useful contacts," Kait added, seeing Harne's look of disbelief.
"I'm yet to understand exactly why you dislike me so much. Perhaps I remind you of someone you loathe."
Kait laughed, the sound filled with richness. "That is another issue. For now, we have serious business to discuss."
"I'd also appreciate a rundown of what's been going on in the city of late," Harne stated. "Since being magicians, I'm sure you have eyes and ears everywhere?"
"You already know what happened to the citadel and First Guard units?"
Harne nodded. "The citadel is besieged by armies from across the continent. And last I heard; only my First Guard unit survived the general's plans, and are still out in the Pass somewhere."
Kait and Daniel nodded simultaneously. "Thanks to the help of the wizard, Arc and his fireballs, they survived relatively unscathed compared to the other units, thankfully," Kait added.
Harne looked up. "I see you know Arc, too?"
"He is one of the instructors at the university and a personal friend; you might say," Daniel replied with a knowing smile.
"Any recent news of where my First Guard's current whereabouts?"
"They were only a week or so away from Dreamuria and reinforcements, the last Arc mentioned." Kait offered.
"That at least is some good news. What else can you tell me?"
"The city garrison soldiers were slowly replaced by the general's men long before we knew what was going on, which is why the city was taken so quickly. Soldiers loyal to the enemy infiltrated our city guard and just opened up the gates one night to let in their comrades. Only about five hundred soldiers from the border forts made it to the citadel, along with a few thousand village survivors. The enemy slaughtered most of those who had no chance to get out in time. Thomas also sent out what few relocators we have throughout the kingdom finding survivors."
"So what of General Kasik? Does anyone know of his whereabouts?"
Both Kait and Daniel read the anger in the soldier's eyes and shook their heads. "He is more the instigator of these events than a mere puppet of the Destroyer's minions. Since he has been missing for a while, we assume he's a guest of Charaz. Trust us on one thing; that sorcerer is the monster we need to worry about. His heart is evil, and his currently growing more powerful than the Destroyer."
"How is that?"
"Because the Destroyer and Keltin, Keeper of Justice, are brothers. Both currently trapped from continuing their personal war which started back in the first age of Keepers. Thus, it is the Destroyer's pet currently doing the dirty work in preparation of freeing his master. He has been using the Book of Knowledge which the Destroyer stole from the Darkness god."
