Katniss POV

I wake up to Prim's adorable voice. She says "Katniss! Katniss! Wake up! You have to go to High school! I can't wait until I'm in high school like you!" I smile and sit up. I say "Hey little duck! You seem happy this morning!" She chuckles and says "Well don't tell mom, but I have plans with Rory tonight!" Leave it to my 13 year old little sister to have a better love life than me! (okay I don't have one but anyways!) I say "Well that sounds like fun! Now go get ready!" She runs out of my room and I get ready. I put on cut off denim shorts, a cute green v-neck tee shirt, and my old black Converse. I braid my hair over my shoulder and put on a minimal amount of natural looking make up. I head downstairs where my mother, Prim, and step-father, Plutarch, are eating breakfast.

I grab my back pack and a granola bar and get ready to leave. I say good-bye to everyone and walk out if the door. I take out my iPhone that Plutarch bought me, and put in my headphones. I walk for about ten minutes before I reach town. A good song cones on so I turn it up and close my eyes as I walk along. It turns out that was a bad idea because the next thing I know I run into someone. My eyes fly open and I rip my ear phones out. The person is gathering books off the ground, so I instantly drop to my knees and start helping them. I say "Oh my gosh I am so, so sorry! I am such a klutz and I wasn't paying attention-" I stop when I look up and see his extraordinary ocean blue eyes. Wow, they're beautiful. What the heck Katniss? No! You shouldn't be thinking like that!

He says "It's okay. I'm Peeta Mellark. I'm new here." We stand up after his books are all gathered. I offer my hand and say "I'm Katniss Everdeen. Nice to meet you." Woah, this is new! I never talk to new people. I'm excruciatingly shy. When he shakes my hand my skin tingles. He smiles and I feel sparks in my chest. I awkwardly say "If you need any help finding anything, or anything just ask." He nods and says "Yeah, Thanks! Um, actually could you show me where the office is?" I smile and say "Yeah sure." He follows behind me as I lead him to the office. I say "Hello this is Peeta Mellark, he is new here." to our principle, Seneca Crane.

Seneca says "Good to see you Katniss! And welcome Peeta! I'll get you a schedule and a locker number." He hands Peeta a schedule and tells him what locker he has. I tell Peeta I can show him where the Juniors' lockers are. I take him to the banks of lockers and he finds his. I realize that it's right next to mine. Yay, I'll get to see a lot of that face! Why am I thinking these things? I just met this boy! He says "So what classes do you have?" We compare schedules and see we have all of the same classes together.

I see him smiling and feel myself blush. At that moment I hear two of my best friends, Annie Cresta and her boyfriend Finnick Odair, making their way towards us. Finnick is the school hottie, but he would never leave Annie. I might find him hot, but I've been friends with him forever so that would be weird. Annie says "Katniss! Oh my goodness girl I haven't seen you in like a week! Oh, who is this?" She looks Peeta up and down. I say "This is Peeta Mellark. He's new here." Finnick says "Hello Peeta! I'm Finnick and this is my beautiful girlfriend, Annie. Welcome to the most glorious place ever! Want a sugar cube?" Finnick loves sugar. Peeta says "Hi. My family owns the bakery. I just moved to this school from boarding school."

I put my bag in my locker and get my binder, notebook, and textbook. I put my phone in my pocket. Finnick is talking to Peeta and Annie is smiling at me. "What?" I ask. She smirks and says "Oh nothing." I walk with Peeta and Annie to my first hour class. Finnick is in a different class so he goes off to find our other friends. We have math first. I sit at a table in the back, with Peeta and Annie on either side of me. Annie gets out her phone and starts texting under the desk. I assume she is talking to Finnick until my phone lights up.
