Chapter ~8~

Katniss POV

Peeta and I put on our boots and coats and then we head out to his car. He drives us over to my house. When he pulls up outside I am horribly nervous. Peeta can tell. He puts his hand on my leg and says "It'll be fine Kat. I'm here for you. Always." I smile and say "I love you." He gives me a kiss on the cheek and says "I love you too Katniss." We get out and he wraps his arm around my waist. We get up to the door and I hesitantly knock. Prim opens the door about two seconds later with a huge smile on her face. She wraps her skinny arms around me and says "I've missed you SO much Katniss!" She then hugs Peeta and says "Thank you for being there for Katniss." He smiles at her and says "Of course Prim!" We walk inside and I hear Plutarch cursing in the kitchen. We walk in and he turns and sees us. His face lights up and he says "Katniss and Peeta!" I hug him and say "Hi Plutarch! Are you having some difficulties with the food?" He laughs and says "Yes! I have no idea how to cook half of this stuff!" Peeta says "I can help." I leave them alone in the kitchen and go into the living room with Prim. She smiles at me and then giggles. I say "What's funny little duck?" She says "It's true. You and Peeta!" I raise my eyebrow at her and she explains "Rory and I were at his house and Gale walked in when we were uh... well that's not important but uh he said he just got back from a party. And apparently you and Peeta had some fun at that party!" My eyes grow wide as I say "Primrose!" She giggles again and says "So it's true?!!!" I blush furiously and nod. She squeals "KATNISSSSS!" I smile and say "Shh!" We laugh with each other for a minute and once that stops I seriously say "Primy, where is mom?" As if on cue, she walks in. She looks as if she's seen a ghost. She says "K-Katniss? Why are you here?" I narrow my eyes and say "I am here because I wanted to spend Christmas Eve with my family. Prim and Plutarch and Peeta." She looks hurt and says "I- I'm sorry." I'm getting angry. I say "Sorry doesn't cut it mom! I was in a coma and you didn't fucking care!" Peeta has walked in by then so I turn and bury my face in his shirt. He wraps his arms around me and comforts me. I turn around to face my mom again. She is looking at the ground, ashamed. She says "You just... you remind me so much of your father. I'm so sorry I'm a horrid mother!" As much as I want to say "You sure as Hell are!" I just say "It's okay." A tear falls down her face as she says "No it's not!" I say "Let's just- just go in and eat dinner." We all go into the dining room and Peeta and Plutarch carry all the food in. It looks delicious. Peeta sits down next to me and I take his hand under the table. We eat in silence. Once we're all stuffed Prim says "We have presents!" We all go into the living room and Prim delivers presents to where everybody sits on the couch. I am sitting very close to Peeta and he has his muscled arm around me. Once everybody has presents we start opening them. Peeta got a sketch book and colored pencils. I got a new bow and arrow. Prim got a hair straightener and curler. Once it has gotten pretty late Peeta and I decide to head home. Once we're in the car I say "Thank you Peeta. I could not have gotten through that without you!" He puts his hand over mine as he says "I love you Kat." I smile and say "I love you too." We get to Peeta's house in a couple minutes and head inside. He makes us a couple mugs of hot chocolate and brings them into the living room. He sits down on the couch and I sit on his lap. I snuggle into him and we sit in comfortable silence for awhile. I lightly kiss his jaw and he looks down at me with loving eyes. I say "I am so thankful I met you." He smiles and says "Me too. You are the best thing that's ever happened to me Katniss." I feel a tear slip down my cheek as I smile. I wrap my arms around his neck and lean my fore head onto his. He pulls my body close to his and I feel so comfortable. He is my rock. I love him so much. Our perfect moment is ruined by the loud bleeping of my stupid phone. I say "Damn it!" As I stand up to get it. I answer and say "Hello?" A voice on the other end says "Stay away from Peeta." I frown and say "Who is this?" The voice says "You need to break up with Peeta. Stay away from him or I will hurt those that you love, Peeta included." I am mad now. I say "I don't know who this is but this is not funny." All I hear is "I am serious." And then a click. Peeta looks concerned as he says "What happened darling?" I don't want to worry him so I just say "A prank call. Do you want to go to bed?" He says "Sure." He stands up and takes my hand in his as we walk to his bedroom. I strip out of my clothes in front of Peeta. He's seen me naked and I love him very much, so I don't feel embarrassed. I slip on one of his t-shirts over my naked body and crawl into bed. Peeta follows a second later after going to the bathroom. He slides into bed and wraps his strong arms around me. Our faces are about a centimeter away. We just stare into each other's eyes for awhile. He smiles and reveals his white teeth. He says "I cannot believe I got lucky enough to call you mine." I grin and push my lips to his. We kiss passionately and wildly. When we break apart I snuggle my face into his chest. He says "I love you Kat." I say "I love you too." I try not to think about the stranger's threats as I lay in his arms and listen to his heart beat.
