I grabbed my phone from the table. Everyone else was outside in the pool. The caller ID was unknown.
"Hello?" I answered the phone.
"Kendall?" The voice sounded familiar.
"Yes?" I asked.
"This is your grandmother." The last time I spoke to my grandmother, I was like 7. That was a much simpler time.
"Granny?" My voice cracked.
"Yes sangol (baby) it's me, you mother is dead" I haven't spoke to my mother ever since she kicked me out 5 years ago. Not one call, not even from my father. Last thing I heard about my mother was she turned into a druggie, and my dad started a new family in New York.
"How? When?" I couldn't feel sad, I didn't really care, my mother disowned me, why should I care.
"Two weeks ago, we didn't know your number, you had no connections with any family, I had one of your cousins contact your assistant. She died of an overdose." After my mother disowned me she cut off any connections I had with any family.
"The funeral is in 1 week, it's gonna be here in Manila, with your family." I wasn't sure if I should go or not.
"I don't know granny" I would hurt to see her body, everything I think about her I remember all the times she passed out drunk or the constant fighting.
"Please Kendall, your mother would want you here." She really wouldn't.
"Okay I'll try." I will only go for her.
"Mahal kita Kendall" she hung up the phone. I put the phone down onto the table.
"Hey who was that?" Kenneth walked into the livingroom, a towel wrapped around his waist.
"My mom died" I told him straight out.
"Oh my god I'm so sorry." He walked up to me and pulled me into a hug.
"I'm going to the Philippines"
"When? Why?" He looked down at me.
"The funeral will gonna be in the Philippines."
"I'll go with you." I love him so much.
"Thank you, I wouldn't be able to do it alone." I laid my head on his chest.
"Anything for you." He lifted my head and kissed my forehead.
"Go start packing, I'll tell the group we would be leaving."
"Okay." I walked upstairs while he went back outside.
I pulled out my suitcases. I called up my assistant.
"Book two first class seats to the Manila Philippines now" I told my assistant over the phone. "And tell my manager that I'll be in the Philippines for 2 weeks."
"Okay right away" I hung up and continued to pack.
"Hey how long" Kenneth asked as he stood at the door frame. "Two weeks"
He left to his room to pack.

I looked over at my phone, it was my assistant.
"I'm outside" she said.
"Come in, it's open" I hung up the phone.
"Hey" she walked in my room.
"So I booked you a flight it leaves in, 2 hours." I grabbed my suitcases and rolled them out.
"Hey gimme" Kenneth reached out for my suitcase while he had his in this other hand.
Kenneth loaded the car.
"Alright I'll see you in 2 weeks!" Sean gave me a hug.
"Bye girl have fun!" I hugged Tati.
After I said my goodbyes to my friends I got into the car.
"You ready?" Kenneth asked me before he started the car.
"Yes" Philippines here I come.
