*Ruby's POV*

I woke up early. I looked at my phone. 7:30 AM. But it was my birthday. I was 16. I smiled as I got up and went to the bathroom and stared at myself in the mirror. "Today's gonna be amazing. I just know it." I said to myself as I freshened up.

I walked downstairs, not wanting to wake up my mom too early, and turned on the TV. I flipped through channels until I found Spongebob. Shut up okay, I still watch Spongebob. I heard shuffling from upstairs. It was my mom. After a minute, she slowly walked down the stairs.

"Good morning baby girl." she smiled as I hugged her.

"Hi momma!' I said squealing. "I'm 16!" my mom squealed with me before getting a cup of coffee.

"What are you planning on doing to celebrate?" she asked, smirking.

"I don't know?"

"No plans for tonight?"

"Nope." I said popping the 'p'. I opened the fridge door, seeing a beautiful cake. "M-mom! It's beautiful!" I said. It was homemade, my mom was a chef. It had black frosting with red around the edges. The fridge door closed in my face. I looked at my mom.

"Don't you dare look at the cake until later. It's a surprise." my mom said, slightly paniced.

Wonder what it is! I walked back up to my room. I was going to get dressed and go up to the store for my mom. She told me she would do it but if I stayed in the house I'd just wanna know what was so 'surprising' about the cake. I thought I saw something in the middle of it but I couldn't see well enough.

I through my Revolution Radio t-shirt on, a leather jack, and a pair of ripped black jeans and converse. I grabbed my purse that was in the shape of a black heart. I skipped downstairs and looked at mom.

"Mom, I know it's my birthday and stuff but I don't wanna be pampered. I'll go get the stuff from the store."

My mom looked at me. "Well alright. But it's your birthday, I don't want you to do everything."

I laughed, "Don't worry mom. I won't." I kissed her on the cheek and left. I didn't have my license, only my permit, so I walked. I passed everyone in the little town I lived in. Everyone knew me and I knew everyone. They all wished me happy birthday and I smiled. People were so nice. I really liked people. The different kinds of people I met. Anyways, I finally got to the store, being stopped by the cashier Rudy.

"Hey there rock star." he smiled. Rudy was my age, we went to the same school and everything. He was definitely a ginger all the way from the freckles to the red hair. He had ocean blue eyes. He was sweet.

"Heyo there ginger." I teased. He fake pouted.

"Happy birthday. I got you somethin'" he smiled coming from behind the counter. I hugged him and took a small box he handed me.

I opened it to find the best thing ever. It was a heart grenade necklace. "Oh my god you're the bestest person ever!" I said a little to loudly. People turned their heads and looked at me. I blushed a little from embarrassment.

"It's her birthday assholes." Rudy said, making everyone turn around.

"Thank you so much Rudy. You're awesome." I hugged him once more.

"Yeah I know. Anything planned for today?"

"No. My mom was acting suspicious. She wouldn't let me look at my cake. Do youuuuu have any idea Rudy?" I pushed.
