The breeze that blew by felt warm in the early morning, making a few of the students feel a little drowsy as it relaxed their bodies. Many marched off in different directions along the cliff line, assigned to a different part of the forest. Coco followed the scroll message until she found a series of over a dozen metal plates embedded in the grass. She crouched down to look at them and wondered what purpose they served. Looking around her as the group filed in she saw yet again another group of familiar faces. Bright and bubbly as ever, clearly a morning person, Vina walked merrily over to Coco with a wave.
Still clad in rather bright gear, Coco made a sour face as it dawned on her that even this girl's combat gear was brightly covered. No sense of tactic of camouflage, the outfit being a bright blue hoodie only zipped half up with a purple undershirt, as well as black tight pants with shin guards and armor plates down her sides. A pair of sais dangled from loops on either side of her waist and bounced with the spring in Vina's step.
"Oh hey! Good to see a familiar face in the crowd, maybe this means we'll be grouped together?" Vina then glanced around and started to frown. "I don't see Willow here, I guess she's with a different group then. Oh well, I'm sure we'll see her around!"
"Uh yeah, maybe." Coco shook her head and tried to find someone else, anyone else, that she could try and talk to. She skimmed past the dark skinned boy Fox, feeling he wouldn't exactly be the conversationalist either. Further down she spotted the behemoth with the greatsword from the docks, as well as the boy who'd been using light to direct the crowds from earlier. None exactly tickled her fancy as she focused to drown out Vina's talking.
"Good morning once again everybody." Coco turned and saw Professor Ozpin standing at the end of the row of plates. He sipped from his mug and looked everyone up and down. "Shortly you will each be launched into the Emerald Forest, an area full of dangerous Grimm, as well as a variety of ruin sites and caverns. You will be responsible for retrieving a relic with your partner from these ruins, and returning them to the cliff side. Are there any question?"
"Uh yeah!" Vina's hand shot immediately up and Coco's face sank into her palm. "How are the pairs determined? Do we pick them before we land or is there a list already made somewhere?" She eagerly bounced and Ozpin shook his head.
"Often times a Huntsman or Huntress may find themselves without allies in an area of hostile territory. It is their job to then assemble a team out of whomever they can to aid them in their goals. To honor that, your partner for this exercise, and for the next four years, will be the first person you make eye contact with upon landing."
Vina's energy could be seen sweeping away as she turned back to Coco with hopeful yet worried tears in her eyes. Coco's eye twitched in response, and she was thankful that her shades could properly hide this reaction.
"Try and find me okay? When we land if we run towards each other it shouldn't be a problem!" Something told Coco this girl hadn't quite grasped the big picture here, and the last thing she wanted to do was be forced to spend the next four years along side this clingy personality.
"We'll just have to see what happens..." Coco choked the words out, yet Vina seemed to be empowered by the line, and grinned so widely that Coco feared for her cheeks.
"Ahem." Another hand had shot up, and Ozpin nodded to the boy that had been using light. "How exactly are we going to be 'launched' as you put it? That seems an odd choice of word to describe how we'll enter the forest."
Professor Ozpin motioned to the series of metal plates that lined the cliff. The boy curiously stepped towards one, analyzing it like Coco had been.
"So are these elevators or..." Stepping onto the platform and looking around for a moment, his words were cut off when the platform suddenly sprung up out of the ground and launched him hundreds of feet through the air and over the forest. Coco couldn't hold in the laugh as it built inside and a snicker broke free.
