Chapter 2: Joey

"BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!" I frantically flopped my hand on the side table trying to end the horrendous sound that awoke me from my slumber. My hand crashed on something hard and the sound stopped. Great, another stupid day of school. Why do we even need to go to school?

Oh, I know. Because the government hates us. I'm not going to go to school today. And no one can change that. "Joey! You're going to be late for school!" Mom said. I picked up my head and responded, "That's the point." I heard footsteps.

The door burst open bringing in a ray of light. I pulled the covers over my head and stuck my face in the pillow. "I'm not going to school." I mumbled. She went from 0 to 60 in half a second. "Joseph Rocco Souchinell! You are going to school even if I have to drag you there by a rope!" Mom screamed. Please, like she would actually do that.

Next thing I know, I'm clinging onto the bottom part of my bed while my Mom is trying to pull me off. "I DON'T WANT TO GO TO SCHOOL!!" I shrieked. By this point, my knuckles were turning white. "Hello?" a familiar voice said downstairs.

I let go and peeked out my doorway. Oh, it's just Chloe. CHLOE?! "Mom stall her!" I screamed while sprinting for the bathroom. What the hell is she doing here? I yanked on some jeans and a striped shirt.

Three minutes passed and I'm running down the stairs. "Oh, hey, Chloe. What are you doing here?" I asked. "I wanted to see if you wanted to walk to school with us." Us? What does she mean by us?

SLAM!

Delaney was standing in my doorway. "Chloe, Joey. Are we going are not? Daniel and Mateusz are waiting!" I looked to my Mom who nodded. We walked out and found that Mateusz, my best friend, and Daniel, Delaney's boyfriend, standing in my driveway.

"Hey, guys." I said. Mateusz pulled a turtle out of his backpack. We started to walk into the street. "What if a car comes?" I asked cautiously stepping into the road. Chloe took a hold of my hand. "Don't worry, I'll catch you." she chuckled.

I let go of her hand. "I'm the oldest one here!" I screamed. She was in the middle of the road and then I saw a Range Rover coming in at top speed. "CHLOE! WATCH OUT!" I screamed and pushed her out of the way. We tumbled on each other while the car slowed down a bit.

Right next to us was Daniel who also pushed Delaney out of the way. "Are you okay?" he asked her. They hugged and then Mateusz held his turtle in the air. "WATCH WHERE YOU'RE GOING YOU BUMBLING BAND OF BABOONS!" he screamed.

The car turned around. Crap, we're dead.

Suddenly, the passenger door opened and Jessica David stepped out in the most mismatched clothes I've ever seen on her. Well, that's Jessica. "OMG, guys! I'm sooo sorry! Hey, why are you walking to school anyway? C'mon ride with me!" she said all at once all too fast.

Right now, I'm in the middle of Mateusz and Chloe sitting in the back of Jessica's Range Rover. All the girls are singing Royals at the top of their lungs while the guys are just trying not to scream.

We came to a stop in front of the high school. "You're going to win craziest dressed, okay?" Mr. Davis said. Jessica laughed and opened up the doors. "Bye, Mr. Davis!" we all said at once. The car drove away.

"I-I have to go." she said and quickly ran off. Weird. "C'mon guys. Let's get to homeroom." Chloe said. Apparently, Daniel and Delaney had to enter their ballots for a contest, and Mateusz had to put his turtle in the pets room.

We sat down and we literally were the only ones in there. That is, until Delaney and Daniel got back. "Hey, Chloe. Can you vote for me and Daniel for cutest couple? Pleeease?" she asked. So that's what they were signing up for. "Totally."

Zachary Lorz and Sarah Aeir walked in. "Chloe, how much you want to bet that Zach and Sarah are going up against Daniel and Delaney?" I asked. She burst out laughing. "Can you like shut the hell up?" Zach asked.

"Welcome back! Today we start off with the cutest couple!" the announcer said. "We have Daniel and Delaney, Zach and Sarah, Nikki and James, and Chloe and Joey!" Excuse me, what? I looked at Chloe while her eyes bulged out of her head.

Across the room, Delaney was looking at Chloe and gave a thumbs up. So she signed us up. I'm going to kill her when this is over. "Ugh, c'mon." Chloe said and dragged me onto the stage.

"I can't believe we won against James and Nikki!" Chloe screamed beside me. Yeah, yeah. Not an actual couple won the cutest couples contest. I'm not quite sure how that's possible, but it just is.

I went up to Delaney. "WHY WOULD YOU ENTER US IN THAT?!" I shrieked in her face. Daniel stepped between me and her. Overprotective boyfriend maybe? "Don't yell at her! It was your best friend that put your names in!"

Mateusz entered us. I stomped all the way to the animal room. He's part of the animal care club. Yes, in our school there is such a thing. "MATEUSZ ZILSKI! HOW DARE YOU ENTER ME AND CHLOE WITHOUT MY PERMISSION!"

"Shhhhh!" He said. "Not in front of the animals." We stepped into the hallway after angering 12 students and MANY animals. "Look, I entered you because I knew you guys would win." I looked at him with a confused look on my face.

"Whatever man. Don't do it again." I said. Then I walked away without another word. I ran to where I left them, and where they still were. "Chloe, can I ride with you today?" I asked. And she said yes.

"Get in guys." Owen said to us. I jumped in the passenger seat and was greeted by a scowl. "What are your intentions with my baby sister?" he said all up in my face. Luckily, I was saved by the tug of Chloe.

She dragged me out and took the seat for herself. "You should talk to Mateusz. You'll like that talk better." she said. Delaney laughed on her way in. 'Thank You.' I mouthed to her.

Maybe going to school wasn't so bad.
