WHAM!
The locker slammed shut and I headed off to homeroom. "Hey." Delaney said catching up to me. I looked down next to me, because she was 3 inches shorter. "Hey." I replied and kissed her on the head.
I gulped hard remembering what my parents told me last night. How was I going to tell her without breaking her heart? There was one answer, I can't. There is no possible way to tell her the news without breaking her heart.
Apparently, my dad got a job in Atlanta and well, we were moving. Next week, in fact. So, how was I going to tell her? Maybe, I wouldn't tell her, and I'd just leave. That would be better... I think.
"Uhm, Daniel?" Delaney asked. "Are you okay, you seem worried." I smiled to reassure her that everything was fine, when it absolutely wasn't. We walked into homeroom class to drop
off our stuff. Then we all headed to the auditorium.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The five of us were all huddled together. It was time for Joey to go up against James Palmirch for the comeback/insult fight. Also known as, funniest guy. Needless to say, we were all worried, especially Joey.
Chloe said, "Joey, if you don't win, we're vandalizing your house next." I decided to go see what the competition was up to. I tiptoed my way around to their group where I was listening to every word.
"Look, James, sweetie. You have to win. There is no way on this earth you can lose to an idiot like him," Nikki said. Of course James would easily win. He was the funniest guy for the
7th and 8th grade, why not freshman?
I scurried back over to the huddle. "Britch Squad!" we screamed. "Discluding Jessica," Delaney added. The night after the vandalization, Nikki called Chloe a bitch because she thought she had vandalized. But, it turned out sounding more like britch.
And thus, the britch squad was born. "WELCOME FRESHMAN OF PINE BROOK HIGH! Today our first match is for the title of Freshman Comeback King between Joey Souchinell and James Palmirch!"
The crowd was completely silent. Besides the battle music in the air, it was completely silent. Joey walked up to the stage, glaring at James, and grabbed the mic. They stood face to face.
"If I didn't invite you to my barbeque, why are you all up in my grill?" James started.
"Is your face hurting you 'cause it's killing me." Joey retaliated.
"I'm sorry. I couldn't hear you over my awesomeness."
"Sometimes I wonder how you're not crushed by the size of your ego."
"Sometimes I wonder how small your dignity must be for you to carry it."
"I'd challenge you to a battle of wits, but it seems you are unarmed." Joey shot.
The crowd roared at Joey's comeback. I remember that quote, it was from William Shakespeare. We were looking at it in the library the other day when Delaney and Jessica dragged us there.
"Keep rolling your eyes. Maybe you'll find your brain back there." James fired.
"Aren't you just as smart as nothing?" Joey fought back.
"Look in the mirror before you call someone stupid."
"Not that I'm saying you're stupid. All I'm saying is you make Patrick Star look like Einstein."
And that was it. James stood there without anything to fight back at him with. "The winner is
JOEY!" the announcer screamed.
