At that very same time Poseidon and Zeus caused trouble on Earth. Zeus turned a poor little girl into a snake, he made lightning and burned 10 houses down to the ground, and it also burned corn fields and farm land. Zeus made stormclouds that covered the beauty of the sun and sky, he made the birds stop singing, trees started to shiver in the cold while lightning struck. In the meantime, Poseidon killed a baby sea monster by accident and now it’s mother is chasing him, he also made a huge tsunami that drowned crops right after they got burned, Poseidon made a huge storm out on sea until plenty of sailors were killed but his great big waves.. Demeter was furious and cursed them both. She said that one day nature will punish them and what means to them most. Soon all of the gods for no reason started to cause trouble in their own way. Most of the time when they did something wrong it always made fruits, vegetables, and crops not grow like they were supposed to.  Demeter didn’t know what to do! All of the gods were causing trouble, humans were starving, and Persephone was still missing. “Oh, no!!” exclaimed Demeter.

Demeter couldn’t stand it anymore. She started looking everywhere for her lovely daughter but still couldn’t find her. Demeter wouldn’t eat, sleep, or grow crops for mortals. On a dark and cold snowy night Demeter was out searching for Persephone, but instead she found the goddess named Hekate. Hekate was the goddess of magic and witchcraft. Hekate told Demeter to go to the sun, Helios. Helios told Demeter that Hades took Persephone down to the underworld. Demeter went to Zeus, the king of the gods, and demanded him to bring her daughter back but he refused.

Demeter thought to herself and said, “ If I can’t have my daughter then Hades can’t have her either.” The goddess of harvest was heart-broken and wouldn’t want to live unless she has her daughter, “I curse you!!” exclaimed Demeter,  ”I curse you all!” Demeter went to the god Hypnos, the god of sleep, and asked him if he can make all of the gods that destroyed her crops her hard work fall asleep. She also told Hypnos that she wants Hades, Persephone, herself, and also including the king of the gods Zeus to go to sleep too. “Make sure that this happens next week when everyone would not expect it to.” she told Hypnos, “Let us sleep for 4 million years or until a Greek hero comes and frees us from our slumber.” Demeter sadly walks away and starts her journey to find gods and goddesses that are not going to sleep to take over the jobs that the gods that was going to sleep for years to come and pass. These gods or people must help or not mankind will be doomed for life.
