Demeter's Curse

Chapter 3

             The first god that she found was a new goddess, nobody ever heard of her before. She was the goddess of melody, balance, fashion, and trust. Her name was Euphony. Euphony agreed to help with Apollo for music and  Aphrodite for beauty and love. Next Demeter found a new god name was Alekos. He was the god of bravery, and crafting. Alekos agreed to help Ares with war, Athena with crafts and battle skills, Hephesus with forging. After the god Alekos, Demeter saw a wise man that loved crops since he was a farmer. His name was Athanasios. Demeter asked him to take over her expertise of crops and harvesting. She also asked him to help out with Athena for wisdom. Demeter told Athanasios that if he agrees to help the gods then he will have the gift of immortality and his family may have that same gifts if you want them to. Athanasios agreed to do this and said that he wanted his family to help him with this honor to help the gods.  She told him to teach people how to grow their own crops and how to harvest them. Demeter gave Athanasios 5 seeds of each plant for him and said that every year you will get more seeds from the plants that you grow. Demeter told Athanasios “ You will be immortal by the time of next week when most of the gods are asleep including me.”

               Demeter kept searching for new or forgotten gods, goddesses, or even humans. She saw the god Zephyr, the god of the western wind. Demeter asked Zephyr to help her but he refused. “I don’t want to help any of the Olympian gods because what help have they ever give him?” Zephyr told Demeter, “The Olympians only care about themselves and I remember the times when I asked for a little bit of help and they wouldn’t even look at me” Then Demeter started to say “ Well, you know that I am one of the 12 Olympians right?” Demeter sighed and kept on talking, “ If you don’t want to help us then that is fine but just remember that if you don’t help then it also makes your job harder anyway. You wont have food, or anything that you need because most of the gods are going to be asleep.” “ Fine.” said Zephyr in an angry tone. “ can you please help Zeus with thunder and storms? And Poseidon with sea storms?” asked Demeter  “ Well this is something that I wanted to do.” Zephyr said brightly.

               As Demeter was walking through a forest she saw a fair maiden that was helping wounded animals and she was picking and planting wonderful flowers and plants. Demeter went up to that girl and asked her what her name was. “ Hello!” Said the girl happily. “Are you lost? Do you need help?” “ I am not lost but I was wondering if you can help us gods?” asked Demeter. The girl quickly said “ I’m so sorry. I didn’t know that you were a goddess. I very very sorry great goddess of harvest.” “ You can just call me Demeter, But what is your name young girl?” asked Demeter. “ My name is Euanthe” replied the girl. “Well  Euanthe, what are you good at?  You can tell me all of it if you like.” Demeter told Euanthe. “ Well I love plants and animals. I don’t really have anything else but maybe hunting a little but I don’t hunt too much, maybe 3 times per month.” Euanthe said. “ Well Euanthe do you mind helping my daughter Persephone with making flowers for everyone to enjoy and also do you mind helping Artemis with her hunting and her animals? This would mean a lot for all of us gods and mortals.” Demeter told Euanthe. “ I can help you but how long are you all going to sleep? I can only help when I’m alive after all.” Euanthe said. “ I will make you immortal” Demeter said “ Then yes I will do this for you until gods are awakened again” Euanthe told Demeter.
