Rudra was frantic. He immediately dialed 100 and reported the incident to the constable on line. The constable was drunk, he sounded irritated, it was 2 am. He sounded a bit lethargic, he shouldn't have been.
He kept on repeating one thing,'Your brother might have run away.'
This got him irritated, "Sir, he did not run away, there was a message on a wall in his room, written in blood!"
"Kya??? (What?) Okay Murder hai bhai!(It's murder!) Picture chal ri hai yaha? (Watching a movie, are you?) Pareshan mat kar ratko, samjha kya? (Don't irritate me at night, get it?)"
"Sir, he is my brother! He has not run away! Please file an FIR! I beg you! He is all I've got!"
"You sound serious man! Kal thaane ake likha ke jana, abhi FIR nai hogi. (Come tomorrow for the report, it can't be done right now.)"
"Why sir?"
"Are bola na nai hogi!(Didn't I tell you just now that it can't be done!) Good night."
And he hung up the call.
He put his head down on the desk in front of him.
What to do now?*
2042
Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh
Running as fast he could to avoid getting caught by his friends, holding the ball tightly in his hands, he looked back slightly over his shoulder, just to make sure they were not close to him, then he looked around, to prevent being caught off-guard, he took a turn to the left, it was a dead end, but he could scale the wall there, making it almost impossible to catch him.
Pankaj was freakishly agile and quick, so much so that his friends used to call him a monkey.
As he closed to the end of the street he looked to the temple to the left, raised both his hands and folded them in a respectful namaste towards it, noticing the panditji who was looking at him and smiling, almost in a way to make it seem as if he was proud of him, he shrugged his head and in one leap jumped over the 5 feet high wall, easily, he always used to wonder, what if he took part in the olympics? Would it be so bad?
'Would Baba approve? Maybe, maybe not, he always used to say,"Everyone has their own destiny, you're responsible for your own, do what you like, but, it should be productive."'
'He wants me to practice Kalaripayattu, but I'm not from Kerala, I'd rather practice Jeet Kune Do, but I don't want to learn how to fight, I want to be an athlete.'
He hid there with the ball for 5 minutes and as expected nobody could find him. He then quietly slipped over the wall again, looking in the distance he saw a friend with his back towards him.
He smiled, and started running slowly and stealthily towards him, something was weird though, maybe nothing, like a tiger he was creeping towards his friend, slow and steady, his friend was looking to the sides to look for him, maybe he thought he had looked inside the street well enough, so wrong!
He smiled again, he was very close to him now, he could feel his heart pump his blood faster, it was so overwhelming, he had to force himself to breath slowly to calm himself down.
And then he tagged him with the ball, "I caught you Ankit!"
Ankit jumped away and let out a yelp,"OH MY FREAKIN' GOOOOOOOD!"
"Hahahahahahahahahahaha!" Pankaj burst out laughing.
"I'll kill you Pankaj, come here! We're playing a game, no need to scare me."
"Everyone come here, I tagged Ankit. He will look for us now."
"We are 15 years old, this is so LAAAME!"
"Come on, be a sport now, hide."
"Aw, okay."
The game started again. This time Ankit was hiding, and everyone else was looking for him.
"Lets go to the same place, I could bet a 1000 rupees he would be there."
He started looking for the place with the temple, but couldn't find it.
"Huh? This is strange, where'd it go?"
Then he saw the entrance,"Oh, wait, this is......."
It was as if the place had changed, there was no temple, and the 5-feet wall was now at least 20 feet.
".......it? What the hell happened here?"
He started walking inside, everything was same except for two things, instead of the temple, there was a logo of some sorts on that side of the wall.Weird. Very weird, it was....shining?
He started walking towards it, when he was next to it, he reached out for the flashing logo, and suddenly, everything was white.
He was somewhere in the mountains, it was freezing cold, but he was unaffected, he could feel the temperature, but it was as if he had a shield on, he looked around and saw a woman, sitting right next to a man wearing....leopard skin?
Snow flakes were falling from the sky, this man was sitting on an ice slab? What?
Suddenly, the man turned back, "Rudra?"
"No, I'm Pankaj....ahem...sir"
"No, you're Rudra, that is your name, ask your father. The time shall soon come, will soon come for you, for me."
"What do you mean?"
"Train yourself well, not that you need it."
Saying that the man winked at him and waved his hand.
Everything was white again, then it was black, he opened his eyes, he was lying on the ground. He sat up, shook his head and said,"Was that Lord Shiva?"
"RUDRAAAAAAAA!"
Someone was shouting his 'Lord Shiva' name.
"Who is that?"
"RUDRAAAAAA!"
The voice was nearing towards him.
"RUDRAAAAAA!"
And a person entered the street.
Pankaj saw him and recognized him immediately.
"Baba?" he whispered.
His father ran upto him,"Stand up quick Rudra! Save your brother and leave!"
"Save my what? And I'm Pankaj, baba! What are you saying?"
"You are Rudra, quick! Go to our house, pick up your newborn brother and run away, here is some money!"
He handed out a few thousand rupees to him.
Rudra was shocked, he took the money.
"What about Ma?"
"I'll save her. You go, go save Kartik, please!"*
'I have to save him. I have to save my brother.'
He stood up, packed his things and left the house.
