The first time Avalon had seen Davi's school she'd been rather impressed. It was situated in one of the quieter streets of Castelldefels and was relatively huge. A large outside area with tall trees providing enough shade offered plenty of space for the kids to play around during breaks, featuring sand boxes and wooden toy kitchens for the younger classes and ping pong tables for the older ones. From previous visits, she already knew the interior of the red-bricked two-story building to be quite spacious as well. Adding to this the very competent and friendly teachers and child carers and you hit the parental equivalent to a school jackpot.
The walls surrounding the area – there to keep intruders out and doing their best to keep the noise the kids made in (a difficult feat going by the laughter and gleeful shouts) – had recently been repainted white; it actually hurt to look at them.
Avalon blinked in irritation and looked away quickly as she followed the wide sidewalk up to where Neymar stood by the school's entrance; a wide dark grey double door set into the brick wall.
The couples she had seen him talking to turned out to be two of his football colleagues and their respective spouses. Very nice people too, Avalon came to realise after just a few minutes of conversing with them. Especially the women, Antonella and Sofia, who suggested a playtime date for the kids sometime next week, what with being neighbours and all.
Which was the moment Avalon realised she was living next door to the families Messi and Suárez – two names that, as she had learned by now, were huge in the football world. And here she'd been, clueless to the fact that their houses were on the other side of their little one-way street.
The amicable chatting continued for as long as it took for them all to enter the school through the double door entrance and go down the hallway leading to the outside area – the usual place to pick up the kids. Then the families separated to respectively look for theirs after having exchanged a few "see you laters".
Davi was already running up to them before Avalon had even taken a full look around. "Papai!" he shouted, practically jumping into his father's waiting arms that, naturally, immediately wrapped around the boy. Avalon stood quietly next to them to let them have some privacy for their reunion.
It was as ridiculously cute to watch as it sounded: father and son hugged like crazy, Neymar kissed Davi on the cheeks and the boy complained as he wiped them with his sleeve because "I'm getting too old for that!". Neymar, of course, blatantly ignored him to finish his cuddle and smooch attack, much to Avalon's amusement.
Oh, and no; her ovaries most certainly had not exploded witnessing the scene, thank you very much. However, the moment had managed to lift her spirits away from the lurking threat that was Nina, if only for a little while.
Avalon shook her head, forcing her mind away from the other witch, even as her whole body shivered involuntarily. Don't be stupid, she chastised herself. You'll get the better of her eventually. After all, the odds are so going to be against Nina. Soon. She doesn't have a clue who she's really up against. The thought made her scoff. A way out of practice witch, a human, a talking cat, and a scared dog. Yeah, we're gonna show her...
