It took another half hour of misshapen spells and Gil searching the house and grounds for her feline teacher (who, as she'd thought, had sulked in one of the pine trees outside), but, eventually, Avalon managed to return the scratch tree not only back to its original size but also make the changes she'd wanted for it to stick at last. Hurray!
By three o'clock in the morning, they finally called it a night, though Gil was reluctant to stop with his questions about all things magical. Suffice to say, the Brazilian was more than a little bit fascinated with everything that was supernatural.
Not that Avalon minded. Gil walking into her practising magic had probably been one of the best things that could've happened to her, given the situation. He surely was going to be an asset. A very important one, if her vague sense of premonition was any indication.
Thank the three Moon Goddesses for his open-minded spirit – he hadn't even needed another Doolittle Potion or a Chill Pill this morning when Zelo had greeted him in the kitchen. And he hadn't even reproached her for technically drugging his mighty-shocked ass yesterday either, fully understanding why she'd taken such measures in the first place. He certainly didn't need the Chill Pills.
Gil was Chill all by himself.
Even more amazing was the fact that Zelo and Gil had bonded over talking about the different kinds of spell-casting. They'd been pretty much doing all the talking while Avalon had dozed off sometime after midnight, after which the two males had switched locations to continue their conversation. Avalon hadn't minded; spell-casting was exhausting. Especially when you were out of practice.
Naturally, Zelo couldn't stop talking about Gil's interest in magic come morning.
Avalon only scoffed in amusement. "Don't tell me you didn't enjoy playing the oh-so-wise teacher?"
"I did," Zelo said, not even denying it. Like that would have been believable, anyhow. "It merely surprises me to find such thirst for knowledge in a human. They usually aren't this eager to learn about the supernatural. The real supernatural, that is. And he had some very interesting ideas and thoughts as well."
"About what?"
"Ah, you know, this and that," Zelo evaded. I'm not even gonna ask, Avalon thought. Can of worms, Pandora's box, call it what you want. She wasn't going to open it. "So, are you quite done with moving your things? We need to get your magical abilities back on track as soon as possible."
They were relocating her equipment of the magical variety from underneath her bed to an up until now unused area on the roof. It was a tiny room adjoining the staircase leading up to the top of the house that Neymar hadn't paid much attention to ever since they'd moved in. No one had had a clue what to do with it. So it had just been there, locked, so that Davi – adorable little devil that he was – couldn't get up the stairs and wreak havoc.
Avalon hadn't even known about the tiny room until Gil had mentioned it last night. And, after having seen it come morning, she couldn't understand Neymar's lack of interest. At all. The view of the ocean alone was even more breathtaking than from anywhere else in the house.
