Together They Stand (Part 2)

Following King Simba's orders, Kion and Fuli wasted no time as they rushed south-westwards across the Pridelands and towards the Theluji Mountains. As usual, Kion led the way while Fuli faithfully followed right beside him, slightly lowering her speed to match her leader's.

"Kion, I hope you still remember the way up to those Mountains," Fuli spoke with a raised brow once they reached the furthest end of the Pridelands, a part where they've rarely ventured into.

"Don't worry, I still remember most of the way," Kion replied with a smirk, earning a grin from his Cheetah comrade. "You nervous about our mission?"

"Pfft, of course not!" Fuli scoffed indignantly. "In fact, I actually feel kinda guilty that we're assigned to this mission!"

"Why is that?" Kion asked curiously, creasing his brows.

"Well, we're supposed to handle a simple task at the top of a cold, snow-covered mountain, while the others are controlling a group of rowdy animals under the burning Sun... Not hard to tell which of us will actually benefit from our assigned tasks, right?" Fuli explained, smirking wider at him.

"Yeah... I guess you're right," Kion sighed, now feeling the guilt as he imagined his other friends and father strenously struggling to maintain order of the obstreperous animals who were pestering the Elephants while suffering the unbearable heat of the dry season. "Okay, here's what we do... we help out with King Sokwe and the Gorillas as soon as we can, then we quickly come back down and help my dad and the others with Ma Tembo."

"Alright, sounds good to me," Fuli nodded, agreeing with his plan (though she silently hoped that their task in hand would uphold them in the Mountains longer so they could escape the heat).

Nothing else was said as they ran ahead, trekking through the twisty narrow paths that led them further away from the Prideland's territory. It wasn't long before they finally crossed over the border and into the thick, foggy jungle that were spread right at very foot of the Theluji Mountains.

"Alright, we gotta stay close if we don't want to lose our way through the fog," Kion warned as he and Fuli slowly walked along a dirt path that went through the middle of the jungle.

"You don't have to tell me twice..." Fuli responded, remembering the shananigans they were put through in the foggy forest the last time they were there with Hafifu and Majinuni.

Walking right beside her Lion comrade, they carefully navigated around the thick fog and underbrush as they ventured deeper into the woodlands, taking note of the familiar landmarks they spotted along the way, indicating that they were heading in the right direction.

Twenty long minutes later, they soon found themselves climbing on an incline that slowly got steeper with every step they took, and it wasn't long before they finally stepped out of the very end of the jungle and instead found themselves staring at a rocky slope that marked the mid-base of the Mountain.

"Wow... that's a long way up," Kion sighed as he tilted his head a few degrees upwards towards the peak, several hundreds of feet above them.

"Well, on the bright side... at least we're no longer suffering from the heatwave..." Fuli said, trying to focus on the positive as she took note of the cool mountain breeze that constantly blew against their fur.

"Alright, we have to be careful while we're climbing up those rocks and boulders. One slip up, and we're done for," Kion informed, looking worriedly at her.

Fuli laughed snarkily when her Lion friend's worried gaze met hers. "Come on, Kion, you don't have to worry about me at each stage of our ascend to the peak. This isn't my first time scaling this mountain!"
