Author's Note:
Hi! By the way, I usually write stuff that are kinda childish and happy ending type stories so I wanted to write something a bit mature.

Chapter 1
I woke up to a rather unpleasant morning.
I looked up and saw Kate trying to wake me up.
"What?" I said, groaning and getting up from the not so soft and rotten rug.
"We have to go! Hurry!" she said tugging my arm so hard, I thought, Might as well rip it off!
I kept my cool though and got up, getting my almost-worn backpack and my rug.
"What's the rush?" I say subconsciously.
"They're here." Cody says.
"Who's 'they'?" I say scrunching my face up in confusion.
"The state guards. I think they've come for us."
Hearing "us" and "state guards", I immediately bolt up in alarm fearing my uncle would be there because he still works there up to now.
"Okay! Hurry!" I say in a quiet-shouting -alarmed manner.
After a while of what seems like an hour of running, I decide to break the silence and say, "So..... do we have a plan? Where are we going?"
"Um, nope and no idea." Kate says rather irritably.
"Okay," I say quickly.
We rested in a cave far from the city. I used my survival tools to make a campfire and Cody helped me while Kate went hunting and looking for food.
After a while, Kate hasn't come back so we decided to relax for a while and sit down on a fallen tree log.
"So, tell me about yourself," Cody says.
"What? Nothing much really to say about myself."
"Oh really."
"Um... yeah. Oh, I love reading."
"Me too. I love listening to music. Wait...... no offense but..... how do you even get to read?"
"Uncle Bob is a state guard. That's why I was so worried he'd kill me if he found me there. Since he works, I sometimes go to the library next door."
"Oh."
We listened to the smooth and rhythmical crackling if the fire as it covered most if the dark areas in the cave.
A few minutes later, we heard a monstrous and thunderous roar. And as if on cue, a black grizzly bear emerged from the shadows wearing a grin that says, I'm ready for the kill.
Cody quickly grabbed a rock and threw it at the bear but that made it worse. It growled loudly again.
My first instinct was reach into my backpack for a knife. I got hold of it and threw it right into the bear's heart.
Blood was gushing out fast. It had just enough strength to attack and when it was about to raise its paws in front of us and rip us to pieces, miraculously, an arrow hit it in the head and it crashed in the ground.
We both whipped our heads in the direction of the arrow and saw Kate there.
"Woah. That was soooooooo cool! Where did you learn to do that?"
Cody said to me.
"Books?" I said.
"I can't believe you guys. I leave you for a while trying to find food for us to survive and you guys just chill out in here? I mean, you're grown ups! I can't even leave you guys alone for just a few minutes! I'm tired of this! I'm tired of you!" she said annoyingly and pointing to me.
"What did I ever do to you."
"Ever since you joined us, we had to run away! We were already fine just hiding in that garden but no, you had to tag along! Now because of our hiding, I almost lost my only family because of you!"
She said "you" in a disgusted manner so I answered back.
"Fine! If I ever die, it's your fault! And by the way, if you wanted me to leave in the first place, you should have told me earlier! I would have left this place!"
"Fine!"
"Fine!" I say quickly storming off and grabbing my things.
I ran out from the cave crying hearing trying to persuade me to come back.
So, this is what freedom feels like.
Horrible.
I reached to my neck, feeling if my bracelet (which I looped around my necklace) my mom and dad gave me and noticed it was gone.
I felt suddenly unprotected and scared. That bracelet was the only thing that kept me going on in life.
I figured that I dropped it in the cave and as much as I didn't want to go, I went back.
I was taken aback because the moment I entered, I saw Cody and Kate lying down on the floor, their clothes blood stained.
I see my bracelet and quickly and nervously loop it around my necklace.
I move and shake Cody and he doesn't move.
"Cody? Cody wake up!"
I do the same to Kate.
"Kate? Kate wake up!"
By now, dozens of thoughts fill my head. It's like my mind was trying to process this mess that I couldn't think anymore.
The one thought that struck me the most was : Are they dead?
Guilt floods over me and I wished I hadn't left them. Maybe I could have helped them live. Why had I let my anger and frustration flood over me!?!
Just when I got up, someone threw me to the ground and electrified me and I was starting to black out after seeing him - blurrily - remove his hood.
Then it happened. I passed out.
