Chapter 6

I woke up after what seemed like hours and sat up from the hospital bed. I was greeted by smiles from my friends: Amy, Gabe, and Austin.

"Hey! You're awake! Are you fine already?" they said.

"Thanks for coming! And yeah, I'm fine already. Wait. Aren't you guys supposed to be in your next training?" I reply.

"You worry too much about the training. We're excused for it."

"Okay. Can I leave this place already? I feel fine now anyway."

"Yeah. Doctor said you could 30 minutes ago."

"Oh."

I got up from bed and felt a searing pain in my back and right shoulder where the arrow hit. I held my shoulder as I walked away from bed and out the door with Gabe, Austin, and Amy.

They said they had to go so they excused themselves and left. I was left alone in the corridors, mixed emotions bubbling inside of me.

Should I be sad I'm alive because of the training I still have to face? Should I be happy that I'm still alive and can still escape? Should I be mad that the others didn't really do anything to save me? Should I feel guilty that I survived and the many others who died didn't?

I shook away the those thoughts and tried focusing on walking since it feels that my body weighs a ton. I bumped into someone while looking on the floor while walking and felt embarrassed. I looked up and saw Zeke.

"Hi. You're fine now?" he said.

"Yup. Though my shoulder and back still hurt," I replied.

"Oh. Here," he said, bringing out a small pack of injections which dark blue and violet color liquid inside," Use these for your pain. Every 48 hours, inject one into your shoulder. One should be enough to make it feel numb. Don't break them though. Don't hit your shoulder and your back okay?"

"Yes, Doctor Zeke."

"Don't call me that," he says, smirking.

"Do you know what I'm supposed to do next? I mean, since I got hurt and my 'training' was messed up and yeah?"

"Nope. Leaders are still talking about it."

"Do you know who they are?"

"No idea. We have our bosses and they have their bosses and their bosses are our leaders. They don't introduce us to them."

"Oh, ok. Well has anyone tried to escape?"

"Yup, a lot have and no one survived," he said shaking his head, "I just remembered that you won't have to do the other 'trainings' that you missed. You're just leveled with them."

"Well, what am I going to do?"

"Sorry, but I can't say."

"It's fine."

"Why are you telling me these supposed-to-be-classified information?"

"I can trust you."

He trusts me.
