I couldn't stop drawing triangles. The first day at a new school and all I could do was draw triangles on my notes, on my desk, and on my hands. The guy who sat next to me in math, who I later found out was Tanner, stared at me like I was the newest animal in the circus, and I guess I kind of was.

The town of Silverlake, Washington was small. Small meaning that the town I grew up in, where you ran into someone you knew in every store, would've fit three in these inside it's limits. We hadn't moved because one of my parents died, or I got kicked out of every school in my home area, we moved because my dad found a new job here, and we hadn't had anything back home to hold us there. My oldest sister, Katherine, moved out two years ago to go to college on the east coast, and my parents never talked about their families more than sending them cards at Christmas.

I should've thrown a fit. I should've yelled at them for dragging me out of school in the middle of my sophomore year and stopped talking to them until we got here. But I didn't because truthfully I didn't mind moving. I wanted to move. A new town meant new friends, or well, just any friends really.

I sighed, making Tanner turned towards me again and snapping me out of my daydream.

"What's with all the triangles?" I glanced down at my paper, wincing subtly as I realized that the triangles had covered most of the page and were threatening to cover all of it.

"Umm."

He was smiling now and trying to stifle a laugh. "Hey, it's fine. You don't have to tell me." When Ms.Maser finished with her lecture, Tanner turned his entire body towards me, which was a feat considering how small the desks were and how big he was, and stuck out his hand.

"I'm Tanner Bryant."

"Reese Dylan." As soon as I put my hand into his we both jerked away. It was like touching a hot pan seconds after it's been pulled out of the oven. He quickly turned back around, putting his hand into his pocket.

I stared at my hand, wondering if I had imagined the whole thing. It had to be a prank. A pick on the new girl type of prank. Wonderful. I turned my focus onto the worksheet. Area of cylinders.

I was almost through with my worksheet when Tanner abruptly stood up. As he reached the door, his shirt came up slightly in the back, just enough for me to see an outline of a tattoo. He hadn't noticed, but I had. It was a triangle.
