*Author's note: Here is the second chapter! Comment if you like it, or if you don't.It was a coincidence. It had to be. I was just overthinking everything. So much for a good first impression.
I found my next class, English, easily. The school was only one story with core classes on one side and electives on the other in between them was the cafeteria and the library.
I chose a seat on the edge of the first row and closest to the door. Luckily, the teacher wasn't in the room yet, so we avoided that awkward who's going to talk to who first bit.I watched the clock tick, slowly edging towards the start of class.
Tanner walked in right as the bell rang.He walked past my desk and started talking to a girl with bright pink lipsticks and a black mini skirt in the back row. His hand twirled up her arm, and he never once glanced at me. Maybe nothing had happened.
"Good morning class." Our teacher walked into the room carrying stacks of books cradled in both arms. "I'm sorry I'm late. I come bearing gifts. It's the first day back from the break, and that means the first day for starting books." An audible groan could be heard throughout the classroom. "Shakespeare is nothing to groan about, and take your seat Mr.Bryant, jocks don't get special privilege in my classroom," and without missing a beat he turned to the door right as it opened as if he expected it to. "Welcome Mr.Morgon, i'm happy you could join us."
He wore a black beanie that most men can't pull off, but mixed with his black skinny jeans, it suited him. For the punk, rocker, bad boy look her was going for, his physique didn't fit the part. He wasn't stick skinny, he was filled out and his arm muscles were prominent against his simple white shirt.
"I wouldn't miss it for the world." His voice was light yet firm.
There were multiple empty seats throughout the room, but he took the one right next to me. Finally, something good to my morning.
His eyes glanced over mine as we both reached into our bags. He winked, and I could feel the heat spread into my cheeks as I quickly turned back to my desk.
It wasn't easy to keep myself from stealing glances at back at him during class, but I managed.
The bell rang, pulling Mr.Hatfeld out of his Shakespeare rant and pulling me out of my bad boy sitting next to me day dream. I stacked my books, carefully scooping them up into my arm and throwing my purse over my shoulder. Before I could step into the bustle of the hallway, a girl skipped over to me until the two of us were walking shoulder to shoulder.
"Oh. My. God. Sterling was totally staring at you the entire class. Not to mention the jealous glow in Tanner's eyes when he sat next to you! Ahh! And you're new, which makes this that much more exciting."
"Carrie, slow down. Give the poor girl a break." Another girl joined us, taking over my right side, and smushing me into the middle. By the way the entire hallway moved apart as the three of us passed through, I got the feeling these girls ran the school. "I'm Sky Tealer, and that's Carrie Bradsen. We'll be your go-to. Seriously, if you need anything." Her smile was genuine despite everything else about her, but I'd take friends wherever I could get them.
"Reese, but I'm sure you already know that." They laughed.
"Word does travel fast in this school. We have physics next, but let's hang out after school, yeah? We'll meet you in the parking lot." Carrie waved, and the two of them walked back down the hallway together no doubt gossiping about me and everything else they heard from last period.
I was glad when I got into my last period without running into either of the boys, making the rest of the day go fast enough.
Parked next to my old volvo was Carrie and Sky. Of course Sky drove a red convertible, although it did seem weird for the rainy atmosphere of Washington.
"Get in!" Carrie Squealed turning around in her chair to look at me. I glanced at them and back at the car, weighing my options. New friends or the comfort of home?
"We'll take you back to your car later, loser. Get in."
"Why not?" I smiled back at them, throwing my bag in first and hopping into the back. I texted my mom I would be home late. She didn't even ask who. She was more anxious for me to fit into this town than I was.
"Where are we going?"
"My house." Sky lived a block away from me. There wasn't really anywhere else in the town to live unless you wanted to drive an hour each way.
"Are your parents home, S?" Carrie asked.
"They never are." Sky tried to hide it, but I could hear the hurt in her voice. "Let's go upstairs."
Her bedroom was cute and extremely neat. Her bedding was white with pillows outlined with light pink. If I hadn't met her, I would've thought this was a room for a younger girl.
She sat down on the middle of the bed, pulling at the threads. Carrie sat in the window seat, and I took my place at the desk. Surprisingly enough, they both pulled out their homework. Sky could sense my surprise.
"We aren't as dumb as we look." I laughed.
"Plus, her dad totally freaks out when she doesn't get it done." Sky shot her friend a death glare and she shut up. I didn't push. "Whatever, tell us what happened with Sterling?"
That seemed to lighten Sky back up. "Sterling? Tell us what you did to get Tanner to pay you any attention." The girls both giggled.
I pulled out my notes before turning my chair to face the both of them. "I didn't do anything. Tanner and I have math together, he talked to me at the beginning and then got angry and ignored me during english. But Sterling, was he really staring at me?"
"The entire time." Carrie made kissing faces, causing me to blush.
"My advice, don't start anything with him. He goes through girls like their nothing. Trust me, freshmen year was hell."
I gave her a sympathetic smile. "Got it, no cute bad boy."
I turned back to my notebooks opening my english one to the first page. It was blank. I flipped to the second, it was covered in triangles. "What the..."
"Are you okay?" Carrie asked she was staring at me kind of amused.
"Yeah. Sorry." Three pages were covered in the same straight triangles. I shut my notebook quickly, stuffing it back into my bag. I remember taking notes in english. I was avoiding looking at Sterling, and to do so I listened to the lecture. We talked about Shakespeare and his life. I even wrote down the assignment at the top of my notes.
I stood up, abruptly. "I don't feel well. I'm just gonna walk home?"
Sky gave Carrie a knowing glance before walking me downstairs.
"I'm really sorry. I'll see you tomorrow."
"Don't worry, Reese. I understand." Something about the look in her eye told me that she understood more than she was going to say.
Without a backwards glance,I turned and I ran home.
