I parked in front of the house. I wished I could say it was home, but it wasn't really. Mom shipped me to the boarding school 3 years ago, and I didn't feel like I belonged. I got out of the car and walked to the door. I looked at it for a second, then knocked. Lila answered the door with a big grin on her face.
"Kyrah!" She shouted, her red curly hair was in two pigtails. I picked her up and gave her a big hug.
"Oh, Lila, I missed you so much." I set her down.
"Kyrah, come see my room! It's pink!" Lila shouted from the top of the stairs.
"Lila, I'm not staying for long, I have to go soon. Where's mom?" I asked
"She's in her room." The little four year old frowned.
I trudged up the stairs and knocked on Mom's door.
"Lila, honey, Mommy's busy." Mom said through the door.
"It's not Lila, Mom, It's Kyrah." I said
"Oh, Kyrah, come in, hon." She said
I opened the door to her room. She sat on her bed, smiling at me. I walked in, put on a fake smile and hugged her.
"I need to get going, Mom, I love you." I said
I walked out of the room and down the stairs. I opened the door to my old bedroom. Everything was still in place and I found a photo album laying on the bed. I walked inside and picked up the album. It was pink and had the title: Daddy's girl. On the front it had a picture of 2-year old me and my dad. I was sitting in my dad's lap with a cheeky grin on my little face, while Dad was in mid-laugh. It was too much. I missed him. Mom left Dad when I was 14. She just said she didn't love him anymore. It was when she was pregnant with Lila. I couldn't bear it. He moved to another state, and I hadn't seen him since. I clutched the pink book in my hand, then sat on my old bed. I turned the first page, then the second and so on. A tear dropped down my face as I saw a certain picture. Mom and Dad on both sides of me, holding my hands as I walked to my first day of kindergarten. I wiped away my tears and got up from the bed. I clutched the pink book in my hand. It was so full of memories. So I decided to take it with me, back to my school. I walked out of my room and silently closed the door.
"Bye, Lila!" I shouted, my voice echoing through the house.
Only silence shouted back at me. I walked out of the house and looked at the neighbor's house. I saw someone coming out of the door. The face was familiar. Ace. He walked to a car on the other side of the street. After him, a small puppy bolted out of the house. It ran halfway into the street but stopped, to bark at a car coming right towards it. So I decided to do the heroic thing. I put the photo album on the roof of my car and ran into the middle of the street. I picked up the puppy just before the car ran it over.
Crunch!
I let go of the dog and it ran to Ace. Ace picked up the puppy and ran over to where I was standing. I couldn't feel anything in my right foot, but pain. I helplessly grabbed Ace's shoulder.
"Are you okay?" Ace asked, "That looked like it hurt."
"Well, No shit Sherlock" I growled underneath my breath.
Ace put the dog down and it ran back inside.
This was all your fault, Bitch.
I was pretty sure it was a female dog because of the pink collar. Ace wrapped his arm around my waist to steady me.
"I think you need to go to the hospital, I heard the crunch." Ace said
I nodded. I helplessly hopped on my left foot, while his arm was around my waist, to my car.
"I'll take you," Ace said "in your car."
I nodded again. I hopped around the side to sit in the passenger seat, while Ace slided into the driver's seat. Then I remembered my photo album, I took it off the roof and put it by me, on the seat.
"Thanks." I said, while he started the engine. How he found my key, I didn't know.
"You saved my dog, I owe you one." He smiled at me.

"It's not broken." The doctor said.
My eyes went wide. How is it not broken?!
"You can use crutches for today. May I ask, what happened anyway?"
"A car, ran over, my foot." I said
"Oh, that's unfortunate." He said
I wanted to punch the doctor in the face. He handed me the crutches and I slid off the bed, steadying myself. Then the doctor left the room. I assumed we were also allowed to leave. The doctor had put a cast around my foot. It was very itchy. Ace looked at me and gave me a small smile, which I returned. I slowly crutched myself to the door. Ace opened it and I went through.
We got into the car and Ace helped me get in the passenger side. He got in the driver's side and started the engine. He looked at me.
"What?" I asked
"I just don't know what to say." Ace said
"About what?" I asked
"Your foot. Sorry?"
"Gee, thanks."

Ace got out of the car quickly. I expected him to just leave me in the car, but instead he opened the door for me, and helped me out. I grabbed my crutches and went to the front door of the school. Ace opened the door and I went to the door of our room. Ace then opened that door and let me in first. I crutched over to my bed and lied down.
What a great first day of senior year.
