Baby Bear (Leo and Kate fanfic)

The test

It was about five weeks later. Kate was back home in London with Ned and the kids. OK, she thought. The home pregnancy test results would show in less than 5 minutes. Maybe she would just go back into the bedroom to read more of the "Divergent" script her agent had sent over to her to read. Maybe she would take the trash out real quick....maybe.....oh fuck it.

She paced up and down in the bedroom. She hadn't said anything to Ned. But she knew the signs; she had been pregnant twice before. Her menstrual period was at least two weeks late. Her breasts were starting to feel more tender and sore and her nipples were darker in color. She was starting to notice her stomach felt a little more queasy in the morning and that she had to start drinking her peppermint PG Tips tea to calm it. In her mind she went back in time, thinking about what day she had her last period. She recalled it was sometime in the last week of February. Was this a Leap Year she wondered? February being a short month always threw her off. She wondered if being off the birth control for a while had messed her cycle up. Then she racked her brain, trying to remember if she and Ned had slept together anytime that month or in early March. They had not. But she and Leo had been together that first week in March, that magical night at his apartment in New York City. Oh my god.....

The 5 minutes was up. Kate's heart pounded; she felt a cold sweat all over as she walked back into the bathroom to look at the test results. Taking a deep breath, she picked the stick up and stared down at the little results window. Plain as day, in clear sight it read PREGNANT.

Her knees buckled; Kate found herself grabbing the bathroom vanity counter to catch herself. She let out a sigh of relief then felt the tears of joy running down her face. She and Leo were going to have a baby. He was the only man she had truly loved and she was the only woman he had truly loved. They had survived fires, scuba diving and skydiving mishaps and physically exhausting movie shoots. They had been best friends for over 15 years. And they had finally made a baby. Gathering her wits, Kate went back into the bedroom and made a beeline for her cell phone which was sitting on the nightstand. She scrolled through her Contacts page and came to Leo. She loved the wallpaper image she had for him – his goofy clown face, with one eye drooped nearly closed and sticking his tongue out. She'd snapped it several months before when he came to visit her and the kids while Ned was out of town. She softly chuckled then hit the green phone icon next to his name to dial him.

"Hello?" Leo's always friendly and familiar voice greeted. "Leo? It's me..."

"Hey baby how are you?" he sounded genuinely happy to hear Kate's voice. She took a deep breath and said, "I have something to tell you....."
