Home WAS where the heart is

Jade pushed open her front door and immediately felt the tension inside and froze

"Jadelyn" her father said sternly 

"What are you doing here?" Jade rolled her eyes "Is your secretary suing you for sexual harassment or have you found a new bimbo to play with" 

"Sit down." he fumed

Jade felt bile rise in her throat, hoping her parents didn't know the one thing she hoped of concealing 

"Hey J" her 13 year old brother Liam called out from the kitchen "Mom made dinner"

Jade knew something was up as her mother was always too depressed about her divorce to cook a decent, non frozen meal

"Great" she raised her eyebrows and sat in her seat, keeping her purse infront of her stomach 

"I got a call today" Mrs West said as she sat across the table from her daughter 

"Oh yeah?" Jades lip trembled and her voice trailed off to a high pitch "Who from?"

"Southern California hospital" Mr West said bluntly 

"I can explain..." Jade's eyes bulged 

"Patient arrived with severe abdominal pain and bleeding. Suspected miscarriage was halted and patient is expected to continue to full term" Jade's mom read a sheet of paper 

"What's that mom?" Liam asked whilst biting into a piece of chicken 

"This?" Jades mom sarcastically waved the paper "This is your sisters medical forms which were faxed to me to send to our insurance company" she raised an eyebrow 

"Just let  me explain..." Jades eyes pricked with tears

"Explain what? That you're pregnant?" Her father snapped 

"Yeah I am..." Jade said monotonously "And before you ask...it was my fault"

"What about Beck?" Liam asked inquisitively 

Jade knew that her father would ruin Beck's life if she told the truth...so out of her love for him she knew what she had to do

"It isn't Beck's...I cheated...I don't know his name...I met him in a bar"

"a bar?" her mother gasped

"Yeah I have a fake id" she wasn't lying "anyway I can't remember much..."

"Oh Jade" her mother cried "I can't believe you never told me"

"I wasn't going to have it" Jade breathed "I went to the doctor...i was going to sort this mess out and move on with my life...b-but i couldn't ok...i couldn't kill it"

"I never knew you had a heart" Liam teased

"Shut it" she snapped "I'm 99% sure i'll put it up for adoption"

"And what about the 1%" her father grunted "you can't bring a child out of wedlock into this house at the age of 17"

"You're barely around to even have a say" Jade laughed bitterly 

"Jade...Is this what you want...do you want to carry a baby...?" her mother pouted "think about how it would affect your future..."

"DON'T YOU THINK I KNOW THAT!" she yelled

"Jadelyn you're a smart girl how could you have been so stupid" her father banged his fist on the table, making the food jump slightly on the plate 

Jade didn't know what else to do...the overwhelming sensation to cry rose up and filled her eyes causing her to hoarsely whisper "I'm sorry" before breaking down into a silent sob at the table
