Narrator
It was just an ordinary day. Relaxing (and eating of course) at the Newton's. There was nothing to do honestly. It was a cold Winter night, and Maddie and Jaeden were sitting by a fireplace roasting marshmallows. Angela and Emily talked and talked. Everyone seemed amused. Then, there was a startling knock at the door. Knock knock knock.
Maddie's POV
There was a knock at our door and all of us were startled.
"I'll go get it." My mother says to us. She walks to the door and a mysterious man is at the door.
"Hello, is this Mrs. Newton?" The man says. His voice is raspy and low unlike Jaeden's soothing, soft voice.
"Um, yes and who are you?"
"I'm Mr. Jennings, your next door neighbor. I have a son who's 14." He reminds my mom.
"Oh yeah, uh well Maddie, why don't you come over here?" My mom says motioning me to come over.
"I'll be back Jae."
I walk to the door and see a tall young man at the door along with his dad.
"Hi, I'm Luke." He says putting his hand out for me shake.
"Uh I-I'm Maddie." I say stuttering.
"Why don't you come take a seat." My mom says. They walk over to the living room where Angela and Jaeden are. I sit next to Jaeden and Luke takes a seat next to me.
"So Maddie, you're looking very beautiful tonight." Luke says making me blush a bit.
"Oh, thanks." I see Jaeden and Luke giving evil eyes to each other. I wonder why.
"Can I talk to Jaeden...alone? I want to know him better." I nod and sit next to Angela.
Jaeden's POV (very short)
"Um what the heck do you want?" I say.
"Back the hell away from Maddie." Luke says grabbing my shirt.
"What did I do?!" I say raising my voice.
"I've had a crush on her ever since the 4th grade ok. When did you meet her?" He asks.
"We met in San Francisco a couple weeks ago."
"Why are you here man?"
"My house burned down and she was the only person we knew that lived in LA."
There was an awkward silence until Luke started talking again.
"ILL MAKE HER LOVE ME, NOT A FREAK LIKE YOU!" He says throwing me against the wall. We were in another room so the adults couldn't hear us. I was hurt. Hurt like never before. I can never tell Maddie any of this.
Maddie's POV
"I'll be back, I just need to get something from the room." Jaeden says running upstairs.
I run after him.
"Jaeden, come out of the bathroom. Are you ok?" I say knocking on my bathroom door.
I hear the door unlock so I open the door. Jaeden's sitting on the floor...crying?
"Jae, what happened?" I say sitting next to him rubbing his back.
"N-nothing. You don't need to worry." He sniffles.
"Jaeden, you can tell me anything."
"It was Luke. He hurt me."
"I swear to God that boy is gonna be dead." I say standing up. Jaeden grabs my arm.
"Can you stay here with me?" He stands.
"Of course." I say giving him a hug. I felt some kind of feeling, I feeling I've never had with anyone else. What was this feeling called?
