"Kasey? Are you ready to go?"
Kasey jumped at the knock on her bedroom door, slipping a bracelet on her wrist. "Coming!"
Kasey slipped into her heels for the night, and opened the door to see Karl dressed and ready to go with her keys. Karl turned around and was taken aback by the woman before him. She was absolutely stunning.
"Does it look alright?" Kasey asked nervously, based on the expression on his face.
"You look absolutely amazing."
Kasey smiled sheepishly and grabbed his hand. "Alright cowboy, let's go."

Kasey was in a daze most of the time during the party. Her and Karl had been separated most of the night, having conversations with people they knew and were friends with. She clung to Molly and Alexis, gabbing about boys and what the future held for 2017. They all agreed it was about to be another hectic year. The music was loud but ambient, and the whole house smelled like liquor. Kasey didn't mind, sipping on third glass of champagne slowly to lessen the buzz as much as she could. When there was one minute remaining until midnight, she broke off from the crowds to find Karl.
"You ready to put the year in the books?" Karl asked, putting an arm around her waist and kissing her cheek.
"Yeah." Kasey rolled her eyes. "I'm putting this one in the history books."
Karl laughed. "Most definitely the history books."
"10!"
"9!"
"8!"
"7!"
"6!"
"5!"
"4!"
"3!"
Karl's grip grew tighter around her hips.
"2!"
Kasey set her drink down as everyone else raised theirs.
"1! HAPPY NEW YEAR!"
Kasey smiled in relief as she could finally take a breath and say 2016 was over. She and Karl both turned to each other with lifted spirits and Karl pulled her body flush to his, pressing a searing kiss to her lips. Kasey smiled into the kiss, wrapping her arms around his neck. Without warning, Karl bent down and wrapped his arms around her thighs and picked her up, spinning her around, earning squeals of delight from Kasey. It was a new day, a fresh year, and Kasey was more than ready to get on with it.

"Kasey..." A knock sounded on her open door even later that night when they got home from the party, and she whipped her head around, standing up to see a now shirtless Karl in her doorway. It was her turn to be speechless. The darkness of her room and the light from the kitchen silhouetted his body.
