"You look nervous." Kasey squeezed Karl's hand as they waited for their luggage to come out of the baggage claim.

"Do I?" Karl rolled his eyes and chuckled at her. He gave her a quick kiss before checking his phone for a confirmation text from the boys.

Karl was not just nervous.

He was utterly terrified.

He and the boys had been prepping for the moment for a very long time, talking to Kasey's family one by one before Karl spoke with her father personally, and alone.

The whole way home he had been nervously holding on to Kasey, wondering if she was going to catch on just yet.

As they arrived home, Karl was sweating down his back. The boys came barreling through the door, hugging both Kasey and Karl, leading them inside. When the adults set their luggage by the stairs, Indy dragged them both into the kitchen where Hunter was holding a piece of paper.

The boys looked at each other once before handing a neatly written note to Kasey.

"Read it out loud!"

Kasey took a nervous breath, looking to Karl, who nodded in approval.

"For two years, you treated us with nothing but care, even if we didn't notice it at first. You made sure we did school work. You played games with us, sang with us, watched our favorite shows with us. You cooked us wonderful meals and kept us in check. You didn't have to do that for us, but you did. Because you loved us like we were your own kids.
You and dad look like silly teenagers in love, but we know without having to ask that he doesn't want to let you go. Forever. He's made sure of that.
We have gone through many things as a family. Some of that stuff was very tough. You lost a child that would have been yours and dad's but you gained sobriety and a new look on life. You lost your brother in law as our dad lost a friend. But we all get through it together because dad loves you, we love you, and you love us.
Like Garth Brooks once sang. "Love is thicker than blood."

So now it's time we ask.

Will you be our stepmom?

Hunter and Indy

After reading the last question with tear filled eyes, Kasey dropped the letter and started shaking. She didn't know what to say in that moment, and in that very moment, Karl got down on one knee, a small box encasing the most perfect ring in the world, and Hunter and Indy flanked his sides.

"Will you marry me, Kasey Jane Giambusso?"

Kasey took a shaky breath before falling to her knees in front of him. "Yes. Yes. Yes I will."

Kasey threw her arms around Karl's neck and began sobbing. She could hear Indy begin to cry tears of joy with her and both boys piled onto the bear hug. She pulled back just enough so she could plant a searing kiss on Karl's lips.

She felt whole.

All of her boys were with her.

She was home for good.
