It was another week before I fully recovered. It was the most patient I have ever seen the Doctor. Usually five minutes of waiting for anything bores him to the brink of death. He did go on occasional adventures with Clara though and when I came there was no danger or running. Just relaxation on a beach in Turkey or in a spa somewhere on the planet but other than that the Doctor waited patiently for me to recover.
If anything I healed a lot quicker than anyone expected me too, but that was probably because of the modern age technology that was available on New Earth and the fact that the Doctor took such good care of me although he was rather annoyed by the lack of gift shops there…
While I was in hospital I realised something important. He was right, Earth was my home, and I shouldn’t want anything less. I’m a human, I’m not designed to live on a different planet. We, as human beings, have evolved to live on the planet Earth and nothing more. There are plenty of places to live on earth as well, I should have been looking at a different area to live in, not a different planet.
“So Miss Cali, are you ready for a real adventure?” The Doctor said jumping up and down.
I smiled looking up at him. “Of course. Wouldn’t have it any other way.” I replied.
He extended his hand from him, I took it and followed right behind him, letting him lead the way.
“Clara” Sang the Doctor moving closer to the door. She ran up behind him and took his other hand eagerly. We all faced the door looking at each other enthusiastically.
“Geronimo!” He called we pushed open the doors into a new world, in a different solar system.
Welcome to Vegas.
The sign shone brightly illuminating in an array of colours.
I looked at him questioningly. He frowned looking around at the dazzling lights.
“Hmm,” he said to himself.
“Where were we supposed to be going” Clara said gazing around.
“Certainly not here.” He said turning back around. “Let’s try that again. Shall we?” He said extending each hand to me and Clara facing the Tardis. I reached my hand to his still looking behind us.
All the shimmering lights, the crowded happy street. Noises erupting from all different places, people and buildings. It was kind of hypnotic. But among all the bright colours and hundreds of people I noticed something. A person standing in the centre of the street unmoving. They had a dark cloak on covering their face. They completely contrasted to the happy looking, flip-flop wearing, smiling people around it.
I felt the Doctor tugging at me. “Are you ok?” He said moving in front of my field of vision.
I pointed in the direction of the person who still remained immobile in their dark long cloak. He followed my finger and noticed the same person.
He looked at me smiling, instead of moving back into the Tardis he pulled me along the street down to the shrouded figure. We moved closer and closer until I noticed something rather peculiar about the person standing in the middle of the street.
The Doctor froze before we made it to the figure. Both Clara and I got yanked back by his firm grip.
“Ow. Doctor. What are you doing?” Clara said annoyed. I nodded in agreement. He wanted to see this person just as much as I did.
I looked into his eyes, they were cold, hard and calculating. What was going on? His eyes were completely focused on the figure and nothing but it. His brows furrowed in concentration.
“What’s going on?” I asked after he ignored Clara’s question.
“Don’t move.”
“What?” I asked confused.
“Look back at the person and tell me what you notice about it.” He said his voice deepening into a whisper that only Clara and I could hear.
I looked back at the figure that had still unchanged. “It hasn’t moved.” I answered feeling the confusion growing.
“Exactly. It hasn’t moved at all. Not even an inch. What else? Look at its clothes.”
Then I noticed what he was trying to tell us. His clothes weren’t clothes.
“It’s stone.” I gasped. The person wasn’t a person, but a statue.
“What an odd place to put a statue.” Clara added.
The Doctor shook his head from side to side not taking his eyes off the statue. “It’s not just any old statue Clara. It’s a Weeping Angel.”
He backed away slowly from the statue which remained unchanged. I looked to him wanting more answers. Why was he acting like this over a piece of rock?
We made it into the Tardis where he slammed the door. I was about to say something but he turned around and looked at us both.
“We’re in trouble.” He said a small smile reaching his lips. He was worried, but also excited.
“What’s a weeping Angel?”
He paced around the room quickly. “There statue’s. But not ordinary statues. They can move, very quickly as long as someone isn’t looking at them. As soon as you blink. You’re dead. So whatever you do. Don’t blink.”
