He was standing, waiting for her to come, with a big grin on his face; it must have been the best day of his life. Too bad the feeling wasn't mutual. Too bad that she was secretly regretting this moment, even as her future husband was a kind, loving man himself...he just wasn't the one for her.Kirstie blinked back tears, holding herself together. After what had happened in her dressing room, she could not let anyone see her broken inside from this. No, she had to go on with this marriage. For her true love, the one she believed to be her true love, did not love her anymore. Avi Kaplan...he didn't love her anymore.
Soothingly alarming music serenaded everyone in the background, as Kirstie strolled down the aisle, with her father by her side. He beamed at her, as she flashed a fake smile back, a fake smile that signified that everything was okay, when it really wasn't.
Her detailed train swept the carpeted floor, the glimmering white against the bright red, vast differences in between the colors standing out.
As she walked, she noticed Avi from the corner of her eye, glancing down at his lap, quite hopelessly. Hopelessly, for maybe he too did regret his words. Maybe he too didn't want to say goodbye. Yet it was all too late, for she had already made her decision- she was marrying Jeremy.
She also glimpsed her closest friends each gazing at her with pride and happiness. Goodness, if only they knew what was really going through her head. Sadly, they never will, for Kirstie knew she couldn't ever tell any of them. Mitch, Scott, Kevin, and Esther, all with tears brimming their eyes, joyous to see this little girl growing up. If only they knew she already grew up the day she gave up on her true love, if only they knew that she was merely a broken, old soul in youth's form.
Kirstie got up there, her palms sweating, her flesh flushed. She breathed shakily, as Jeremy whispered to her, smiling, "Kirst, everything's going to be fine. You do want to marry me?"
Kirstie shivered, smacking her lips together, only to giggle nervously, "Of course!"
Which was quite the lie. Did she want to marry him? Perhaps not. Did she need to marry him to take the pain away? Definitely.
Jeremy laughed at this, as the clergy stood beside them, announcing, "Blank blank blank blank."
The sentences splashed through her head, swimming through Kirstie's mind, as she stood there, completely in her own little world as Jeremy interlaced their hands.
Kirstie immediately gazed up at him, rather than her Dior diamond heels, her attention now to him, rather than her scattered thoughts.
"I do," Jeremy blushed at Kirstie, his eyes burning with the fiery flames of love, kindled waves of affection.
"Kirstin, will you take Jeremy to be your lawfully wedded husband?" The priest's voice rang through her head, emotions flooding her.
Kirstie glanced around, like a deer in the headlights, her face filled with panic, fear, and most importantly desperation. Only one could clearly see, besides Kirstie herself, obviously Avi, for he knew what she was going through. In fact, he hated himself for giving up on her, but what else could he do? She was practically married to someone else, if not will be married in a matter of seconds.
Avi watched her sadly, their eyes both gazing lustfully and wistfully, longing for each other. Yet they both knew, it was not meant to be. And with knowing that, Kirstie finally spilled the words out of her mouth, the words she knew she despised, but knew would save her life from this madness.
"I do."
Broken. That's what she was. Nothing but a broken doll, trying to make things right, yet destroying herself slowly.
