"Little faster," I say and beat my wings almost as fast as a dragonfly's wings beat.
I yelp and stop as something rushes by me, startling me so I jump back but fall to the ground.
A guy then appears in front of me and offers a hand to help me up, "Sorry about that, I didn't mean to scare you," he says, "I'm Darren."
I take his hand and stand up, "Oh, so you're Darren. I'm your new roommate," I say, "my name is Diana Fae. Don't worry about scaring me, I was just kinda trying to fly."
"You mean you can't?" he asks.
"I've never tried before, I'm trying to find what speed just lifts me off the ground so I can figure out moving from there," I say, "I almost had it when you scared me."
"Sorry again, I was just practicing my flitting," he says, "I come out here to do that most of the time."
"It's alright, I have to say, you're not how I imagined you would be, you're taller and your hair is darker. Mostly physical attributes that I got wrong," I say and my wings flutter on their own, really fast so I suddenly lift off the ground and hover, "Whoa!"
"Wow, looks like you figured it out," Darren says, "I'll see you back at camp for dinner," he flits away.
I look at my wings, "You have a mind of your own," I say and feel they were beating at least 40 flaps per second, slightly faster than the average dragonfly which is 30.
I smile and quickly pick up on the steering, flying back to the center of camp where most are gathered around a campfire, I land behind Evra and giggle which makes him hiss as he whips around.
"Oh, Diana, it's you. You shouldn't scare me like that," he says and adjusts his beanie.
I giggle, "Sorry but I learned to fly, check it out," I say and hover just in front of him, "It's so cool and I feel so free! No one is staring at me and no one is treating me badly, I feel like I belong here!"
"Well that's great, because we want you to feel like you belong," he says.
I spontaneously hug him then quickly let go and blush, "Sorry, I'm just so comfortable around you, maybe because you're sorta part creature. I feel more at ease around animals, insects, arachnids, all of those. Humans? Not so much," I giggle.
"Oh, well I'm glad you feel comfortable, why don't you come sit and eat dinner?" Evra suggests then pauses, "What do you eat?"
"I'm vegetarian, I prefer not to eat meat but if it's unavoidable then I will," I say and land, folding my wings and sitting on the bench next to Evra.
