To the Siren

You shouldn't look at me the way you are.

That smirk you wear, the one where your lips twist into a rope mixed with sensuality and playfulness

The one you wear when you annoy me, the one you wear when you tickle my skin and laugh at my clumsiness

It is a masterpiece that only Michelangelo could sculpt.

Your hair falls in streaks around your face,

It's like you peak through blades in a field of grasses somewhere in Kansas or North Dakota

Or anywhere that has grass.

Your laugh fills the hallways.

I hear past memories echo, like Sirens who call in sailors

Your laughs at my terrible humor and jokes I tell, beckon me to get closer to you.

I inch closer with every memory of you,

Like sneaking snacks into the movie theater while being the only two in an empty theater

And talking as loud as we want to without the audience exclaiming Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh...

Like your impromptu date with Cheez-Its and Dr. Peppers

Slow dancing to that one Jason Mraz song in the middle of the parking lot

Our breaths mixing as our foreheads meet

Our dance just began

You Siren, you lured me into your grasp and I cannot get free

But why would I want to?

Your embrace is the warm blanket that welcomes me on a cold evening in December,

The comforting enclosure that I find comfort in

Like an exhale after holding your breath for a long time

Like two minutes.

Unless you're a swimmer, that's a long time.

Your favorite color is blue,

The same blue that is your eyes, like an ocean that never has an ocean floor

The eyes that I've told about my personality, my fears

My love for you

The blue of your veins that I trace with my fingers as we lay together, noses touching and breaths slowing.

I am ensnared in your trap by those blue eyes in the blue ocean, you Siren

I have sailed the entire ocean in search of that color blue

My compass found its True North in your presence and who am I to refuse its direction?

Your smile is the comfort any sailor hopes to find

My dry land, a new island

I dream of you every night, my ocean

You charm me with those blue eyes.

In the midnight's silence, I ache for the sound of your voice.

The song you sing to me when I am distraught

I hear you sing You Are My Sunshine...

I said 'til death, you did too.

I will forever keep this commitment like our wedding kiss

You Siren, you lured me into your grasp and I cannot get free

But why would I want to?
