HIM

It was... awkward, for a lack of a better word. Renata and I sat next to each other, eating our chicken sandwich's while her mom - who's name I found out was Janelle- sat perfectly quiet and stared at us, waiting for something to happen. And Renata seemed to be mad about something. I wanted to talk, break the silence but... well, what do you do when you're in the middle of your best female friend and their mom? And what to talk about?

I drank my coke, noticing that my sandwich was already pretty much done with. I looked at mine again, and then at Renata's, who was barely halfway through. Actually, she wasn't eating at all. What she was doing was glaring at her mother, eyes like laser beams. I frowned. This doesn't look like it's going to be resolved any time soon...

HER

I walked into the car, not in the least happy. Alonso stayed silent while mom went on roaring with laughter. I could see tears falling down her face. Tears! And then Alonso also looked a bit closer to a rosy shade now. Honestly, I want to know what my mom told him. You see, I'd gone off to the bathroom really quick to wash some mayonnaise off my shirt. And when I came back to the table... Well, mom had just finished whispering something to Alonso, who was reduced to stutters and incoherent noises.

And now I was pissed. It was better though. The past week I'd been doing nothing but sulking. If not that, I'd be asleep, dreaming of that day... Of the terrible things that had happened. Without thinking, I looked down at the scar on my palm. The sight triggered sensations from the day of the incident. The white hot pain as the knife slid deeply through my skin-

I grit my teeth, wrapping both arms around myself in an attempt to hide their shaking from Alonso. I couldn't let him see that I was still affected. And mom... she thought I was long done with the incident. That I'd already gotten over it.

"Hey, you cold?" Alonso leaned closer out of nowhere, bringing an arm around my shoulders and pulled me closer. I don't think the movement was really intentional, nor did he notice it but I certainly did. My face went up in flames. Thankfully, the shaking did go away. And on went the silence.

But of course, mom had to be the one to break it. "So Alonso, how's school been? I heard you're a transfer student?" She looked in the rearview mirror, smirking when her eyes met with mine. That little-

"I guess it's easy."

"Students treating you nice?"

"I haven't really socialized with anyone other than Renata. Most of the people that want to be my "friends" are just girls."

"But Renata's a girl."

"Yeah, but I'm the one pursuing her in the whole friendship relationship." Oh my god, what was with this conversation! And Alonso saying he was pursuing me? It's like saying he was after me as a girlfriend! Oh god... My face flushed with color at the thought and then-

"WATCH OUT!"

Things went spinning. Everything around me was in chaos. I couldn't see Alonso, only hear screams. My body was lifted out of my chair, reminding me that I'd never put on my seatbelt in the first place. No wonder people are always telling me that seatbelts save lives and what not. Something cut my arm. Flecks of dust and other things clouded up my already watering vision.
