"So," my little niece asks,
"What does moonlight sound like?"
I am baffled;
For I haven't the faintest idea,
But her hopeful eyes
await for an answer,
so I try:
"Moonlight, I suppose,
You'd hear on a very quiet day..
Or you could even ask the flowers
That bloom in the dark
If they heard a low hum
Of deep, harmonious voices
No words, just a continous hum,
Each tone overlapping the other
Without an ounce of friction;
This, the flowers would say,
Is the echo of the souls
of the stars you see,
that used to be people,
Extraordinary in their mortal form,
Chosen to be a part
Of a special group;
They hum
As they now stand guard,
To the Moon itself;
Offering protection
As the Moon does the same
To the children of the world..."
My niece looks on
Her jaw slightly agape
Then quickly shifts her interest
To something else entirely
As if I had not spoken.Three year olds.
