Chapter 1
Mal was sitting in a beautiful stone pavillion with Ben. They were sitting at a stone table, each eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, watching the sunset before them.
"Ben, this is...sweet of you." Mal said, trying to smile.
Mal sighed. It was a really sweet gesture, and she appreciated it. Mal just didn't feel the romance in the moment.
"Ben..? Can I talk to you? It's kind of serious."
Ben looked a bit worried, then nodded. "Okay. What is it?"
Mal sat down at the table, a concerned look in her eyes. She didn't want to hurt Ben, yet she had to say something.
"Ben. Before I say anything, I just want you to know it's me, not you."
Mal looked at Ben and slightly smiled.
"O-okay..." Ben nodded and bit his lip.
"I just feel like we don't have chemistry anymore. At first, we started off strong. After that, I feel like we just were together to make Auradon happy."
Mal looked down at her shoes as a tear rolled down her cheek. She didn't want to face Ben.
"Mal..." Ben lifted Mal's chin and looked sad.
"We're not like that, are we?"
"To me it seems like it. I do-er, did love you so much. But now? I don't feel a connection."
Ben looked down.
"What are you saying?"
"I'm saying...uh, this is so hard."
Mal started crying more. She walked over to Ben and kissed him on the cheek.
"I love you, Ben...but I'm breaking up with you."
Mal, her eyes filled with salty tears, ran out of the pavillion.
"MAL! Come back! Please!"
Ben ran after Mal. He finally caught up to her and caught her arm.
Mal turned around, her eyes glowing green.
"Go away, Ben! Please." she said sadly.
And there it was. As Mal was sadly walking away from her now ex, Ben was alone in the pavillion, tears trickling down his cheek.
He was heartbroken.
