I NEVER COULD have ever dreamed, nor believed I'd be able to step foot on the campus grounds of Worthington University, let alone be allowed inside the many different buildings. Upon our arrival to the school, Roy briefly gave Anthony and I a short tour of the different buildings on our way to meet whoever is waiting for us.
It felt and still feels very surreal to be here, knowing that I will be attending Worthington sooner than I would have liked. "This way, come on, move a little faster." Roy snaps, an annoyed look displays across his face as he holds the door open for us to walk through.
I roll my eyes, but Anthony and I both follow his orders. Walking through this door serves to be different from all the others; firstly, there are other people in this room standing around, and secondly, they all wear nametags on the front of their shirts, names that I recognize from the draw yesterday.
My eyes look over everyone in the room, until they drift onto an older woman standing off to the right side. She has a stack of paper in her hands and seems to be reading something off it. Roy clears his throat loudly to grab her attention, and when she looks up I can see a flash of irritation as her eyes glaze over Anthony and I.
"Took you long enough." She says to Roy taking a few steps closer towards us.
Roy nods his head, "I know I am sorry."
The woman purses her lips into a thin line, clearly not happy with Roy's answer. But she does not question him further, instead she goes to stand in the middle of the room, "Alright, now you are all here we can discuss the reason why you were all brought here early, and the rules involving your participation in this experiment."
She then turns to look at Anthony and I, "My name is Diana Harrison. I am one of the professors at Worthington and I am also one of the main researchers helping to conduct this experiment. I understand that you both were present during the attack on the transit bus?"
"How did you hear about that?" I ask curiously, both Roy and this woman, Diana, knew about what happened only hours ago. I wasn't quite sure how that was possible, Anthony and I had only been in contact with the police, and the story would not be on the news until 7:00pm tonight.
Diana rolls her eyes, "We've been keeping track of all your actions since all of you were picked last night." At that, I felt extremely violated. My privacy no longer felt so private, I know this is an experiment, but I never volunteered to have my life invaded like this. To have our actions, words, anything, watched and recorded, it left a bad taste in my mouth.
"This is an experiment as you all know, so your private lives are no longer existent during your stay here." Diana explains, "You were all brought here early for your protection. As I mentioned before, there was an unfortunate event taken place hours ago where a bus was hijacked by a rebel group of Xs who began to kill regs. Both Anthony and Veronica, here, were present during the attack, and we have reason to believe they planned to have them killed. This group of Xs do not believe in co-existence and are extremely against our experiment. Therefore, you will all be staying here from now, this is the only way your protection can be ensured."
