"MASON," I SAY in a wary voice. I feel a slight sense of relief, thanking God that it's only Mason and not Roy standing here in front of Terrence and I. From the little time that I've known both guys, Roy has made me the most nervous to be around. He's not welcoming or polite, and it is simply infuriating. However, there is the presence of nerves inside of my body because I'm not sure how Mason is going to react to finding Terrence and I in the garden.

"You know, Roy told me he warned you not to go back there," Mason says, while an amused smile makes its way onto his face. "I, however, don't really care, so don't worry about me ratting you out."

I hear the door behind me shut closed and feel Terrence approach me from behind slowly. Mason's attention refocuses onto him. "Terrence, if you'd please excuse me, I'd like to discuss something with Veronica alone,"

I turn to face Terrence and see him nodding his head vigorously. There is a slight shake in his hand and I can tell that Mason makes him nervous. "No problem, don't worry. I'll leave, for sure. Me leaving now, right this instant, right this sec –"

"Terrence," says Mason, an annoyed expression starting to form onto his face.

"Right, sorry," Terrence replies, quickly shooting me a worried look. "We'll just eat together another time Ronnie, see you later." I watch his retreating figure walk away quickly, before he sharply begins to turn the corner and break out into a sprint.

Shaking my head, very amused, I return my attention to Mason who is looking at me in a curious manner. "So, quick question before you say what you need to say."

"What is it?"

"Um," I start, thinking about how I should word my thoughts aloud. "Do you have any idea why Roy doesn't want any regs in the garden?"

Mason stares at me in silence for a couple of seconds before he finally says, "The garden is a special place."

"I understand that," I reply with a confused look on my face. "Camille couldn't stop going on about how beautiful it is when I first met her, but –"

"No," Mason shakes his head. "I mean that to Roy –to Camille and to me, it's a very special place. Roy is just protective of that."

I still feel quite confused by his answer, but I decide not to ask him for more answers, I don't feel like decoding his words and figuring out what he means anymore. "Okay, but that doesn't mean all of us regs should be banned. Aren't all Xs allowed in the garden?"

Mason nods. "They are, but they don't go in there."

"Why not?"

"I told you already," Mason sighs, clearly beginning to get annoyed with me. "Roy is protective of the garden, but if you want to continue to visit be my guest, I honestly don't care."
