I DID GET to breakfast late. Diane ridiculed me in front of everyone, however, if someone were to ask me to recite a summary of what she said, I wouldn't be able to list off a single thing. I didn't care at all for her lectures. I didn't care at all to be here in this room, in this school. I just didn't care.
Now Diane is going on about more rules. I attempt to pay attention this time, only because of this stupid experiment. I know how cruel the wrath of an X can be and I don't feel like being punished for breaking a rule that I should have known to follow. Although, my head is starting to feel heavy and I am not quite sure how many more rules my brain can strain to remember.
"Where did you go this morning?" Lara whispers. She had saved me a seat beside her, so thankfully I didn't have to go to the only other seat available. It is a lonesome seat in the far left, right in front of Diane.
Thinking of Diane, I quickly turn my head to see if she is looking in my direction. When I see that she is turned and facing the other side I rapidly whisper back to Lara, "I went for a walk. I couldn't go back to sleep."
"Wow. I am amazed," Diane's shrill voice screams. Luck, unfortunately, isn't on my side today. She glares at me, as if she wishes I would be set on fire right this minute. "I cannot believe you Veronica Morrison. The amount of disrespect you have been dishing out since you got here has me flabbergasted."
I look down at my hands. "I am not sure I know what you mean."
Diane lets out a noise of disgust. "First you do not attend last night's dinner, then you show up late for breakfast, and now you talk while I am talking. I mean have I done something wrong?"
"What," I call out, my head shooting upright to stare at her in utter confusion. She thinks that I am purposely being disrespectful towards her. I feel like I just can't catch a break.
"I spoke to her first," Lara speaks up. "Don't be mad at her, be mad at me," She gives me a small smile before she faces Diane who is now frowning.
"Well," Diane clicks her tongue. "Just don't do it again. You all need to listen." She glares at me again, but chooses not to lecture me like I know she would have, had Lara not stepped in. "As I was saying," Diane begins again. "Your families will be visiting today. They will be bringing all of your luggage here and will be allowed to spend the day here. This only a one-time thing, so make it count because you all will not be able to see them for a while."
"What about reading week or Christmas holidays?" One of the female regs ask.
Diane only rolls her eyes. "This is why regs are so behind on their education, you guys are given too many breaks. Worthington, or any other schools made for the Xs, do not partake in part-time breaks, you only get summer. Kiss your reading whatever and Christmas break goodbye."
