I woke up. "Morning babe." Marilyn greeted me, I was confused. "Morning?" He smirked and nodded. "You passed out." I blinked. "Wow." I mumbled.
Everything hit me at once. Marilyn disappeared out the doors of our bunk. He reappeared with coffee. I took mine and smiled. "I can't believe Cal is pregnant. What is Zim going to do? She is too young." I kept talking to myself, not really directing my words to anyone. "I wouldn't want to be pregnant. I wouldn't be a good mother." I said out loud looking at my coffee.
Marilyn sighed. "Babe. You aren't the pregnant one, Zim will love the baby, Cal wants the baby, and you would be an amazing mother." I gave a weak smile.
"Tonight the guys and I are going to go out. Is that alright?" He asked. I took a deep breath and nodded. He sat next to me on the bed and kissed me. "Love you gorgeous." I rolled my eyes. "Love you too Antichrist." I covered my words with sarcasm. He gave me a sarcastic laugh.
The phone rang. Marilyn looked at me and I looked at him, we both silently wondered who would answer the phone. I leaned over and grabbed it. "Hello?" Someone cleared their throat on the other line. "Hi is this Nikki? This is Ariel." I was confused. "Um? Who? How do you know me?" The voice on the other line sounded like it was holding back tears. "Nikki, its your mom." My heart stopped. "Mom?" I whispered over the phone. "Yes. I missed you Nicole." My mom was crying now. "Mom. It's okay. I'm here." My mom gasped for air on the other line. "Nikki... I have news." I paused, scared. "Nikki, you need to come back to Ohio. I shook my head, forgetting that she couldn't see me. I stood up and began pacing. Marilyn looked worried and I smiled at him to relax him. "What? No. Why?" I blurted out. "Nikki, your grandmother passed away last night. The funeral is here, in Ohio." I quit pacing. "What?" I whispered into the phone. I slowly sank to the floor. A tear slid from my eye. "No." I pulled my knees up to my chest and Marilyn came and sat down next to me. "Babe?" He whispered. I glanced at him and he saw I was crying. He hugged me. "I'll be there." I told my mom after she had given me the details.
My grandmother had been the only family I loved. The only family I cared about. She had been my everything and she had raised me. I slowly got up, feeling numb and sat on the bed.
Marilyn sat next to me. "What is it baby?" I pushed my hair behind my shoulder. "My grandmother. She died." I struggled to get the last part out. I began crying, which I hated. He wrapped his arms around me. "Oh, baby." He pulled me to him and we stayed there like that for a few minutes.
-Two Days Later
The taxi pulled up to the funeral home, Marilyn paid the driver and we got out. Marilyn wrapped his arm around me. "It's going to be okay." He whispered in my ear. I wanted to believe that, but I was numb, I couldn't think and I couldn't feel. "She's gone." I whispered. Marilyn's arm tightened around me.
"Nikki!" I snapped around to see my mom. She had green eyes like me and her blonde hair was in a bun. She hugged me and I weakly wrapped my arms around her. "Nikki, she wanted to see you before she died. But you left us." My mother hissed the last part and I knew she was trying to hurt me more. If that was possible. She looked at Marilyn and glared. She hated him, despised him actually. I took a deep breath and he shook her hand. "Mrs. Remmings." He nodded and let go and I pulled him inside the funeral home.
My father had left after I did, leaving my mom alone. She had moved in with my grandmother. The funeral was long and depressing, so was the burial. When it was over I went to pull Marilyn away. He wrapped his arm around me only to be pulled off by my mother.
"Nikki!" Here we go. I thought. "What?" I yelled. "She loved you and you deserted her!" My heart sunk, then I fired back up. "Kind of like you did me?!" I screamed back in her face. She looked hurt before slapping me across the face. I snapped back and glared at her. "And you! You can't date her! You are fucking trash!" My mom yelled at Marilyn. I stood between them and got in my mom's face, she cowered down a bit. "You know what, Ariel?" I hissed, making sure I didn't call her mom. She shrunk down more. "You don't ever talk to him like that, the only trash here is you." She glared at me and I turned to walk away. Marilyn grabbed my hand. I snapped back around. "And guess what? We aren't dating! We are engaged!" I yelled and she looked shocked. We walked away and got in a taxi.
I took a deep breath and cried more. We got back on the plane we had taken here and met the guys back in California.
