"Shelby! Shel-byyy!" Thomas yelled. I was in my dorm room at the end of the day doing my science homework.

"'Shelby' doesn't have any exaggerated syllables," I teased Thomas. He growled under his breath.

"Whaaat?" I asked, throwing down my pencil on my bed.

"Remember that 'The Age of the Samurai' was chapter seven? And we're in seventh grade?"

"So?"

"The slanted words, the first letter of each of them spells insulators. Insulators counteract lightning and electricity! Plus, we're in seventh grade. Coincidence? I think not! Haha!" He jumped onto my bed, swiping an imaginary sword before holding his arm high in victory.

"Ha, calm down before your lightning causes my hair to stick to the walls," I said playfully.

"Oh, shut up!" He yelled, grabbing my red pillow to whack me. I threw my science homework off my bed onto a small nightstand by my bed. I ripped the pillow out of Thomas's grasp.

I smacked him with it.

He rolled off the bed and landed square on his feet. "The real reason I came," Thomas explained. "Is to share my accomplishment and put it to the test!" He pulled two blue gloves from his pocket and put them on.

He walked over to me and held up a hand. I stood up and high-fived him lightly. I didn't feel anything. I reached up and brushed a bit of his black-and-auburn hair out of his eyes. I ran my hand down his face, then to his shoulder.

"You're hands must be your source of power... No pun intended, zap-boy!"

"Hey! Song bird!"

"Glove lover!"

"Blondie!"

"Mineral eyes!"

"Cute girl!"

We froze. Uh... How was I supposed to react? Excited? Flattered? Weirded-out?

"I, um, I gotta, I gotta go," Thomas broke the silence, clearing his throat.

"Yeah, well, uh, I have, you know, homework and stuff," I replied, scratching the back of my head. "Congrats, though."

Thomas smiled and nodded his head. Then he left.
