The red string of fate. It connects people to their soulmate. This 'invisible' string is tied onto someone's finger and the other side is your one true love. It cannot be broken but can be stretched for ages.
Hi, I'm Yuri Katsuki, I'm seventeen, and I didn't have the string until two weeks ago.
I remember going into my first grade classroom and my teacher teaching us about the string. Of course, we already knew about it. Some people were lucky enough to be in the same school as their significant other. Not me though, I didn't get that luxury.
When I looked down at my hands, there was no red string, I raised my unoridinary hand and announced to my homeroom that I had no string.
Big mistake. Me saying that spiraled into bullying that I was going to be alone forever. That I wasn't going to have anyone for the rest of my life. I eventually began to believe that. I mean, I didn't have a string that connected me to my soulmate, therefore I didn't have one. Makes perfect sense.
I'm an eleventh year now, and everyone was fine with me not being like them then.. But what they did to me back in elementary school still haunts me. It sprouted anxiety, and self insecurities. So I'm a little on edge all the time now, but I get by.
My family was taking in a Russian exchange student named Vik at the time. I was the most excited person ever, I'd never met her but I was sure she must've been really nice and pretty. Vik was in an exchange student program that allowed her to study here for six months to five years. It may seem that I know a lot about this girl, but I actually don't know much at all. We've taken in so many people in the past that I no longer keep track of them all. My parents don't even notify me when we get a new one, when there's a strange thirteen year old Canadian boy rummaging through our fridge it's a normal day.
Jumping to the day of Vik's arrival, a big white moving van pulled up into our yard and I sprinted outside to meet my potentially new friend.
Of course, my parents already beat me outside, and were standing on the lawn awaiting her.
A tall, long white haired girl wearing a leather jacket and jeans opened the back of the van. Inside were several boxes, she grabbed one and turned around.
Sorry, he turned around.
Yeah, Vik was a guy, my mistake for being a dumbass for not noticing Vik is short for Viktor. He looked at us and smiled.
"Hello!" He greeted. Viktor dropped the box and ran over to us, "How are you? I'm really happy I'm here, it's so pretty!"
"Hello Mr. Viktor, you must be excited to start studying with our boy Yuri. You're both the same age and class." My dad grinned, informing Viktor.
The exchange student looked at me approvingly, "You must be Yuri, I've heard so much about you. You're on the ice skating team here right?"
I blushed, his eyes were so gorgeous and intimidating..
"Uh..Yeah..Yeah I'm on the ice skating team.. Do you like to skate?"
"I don't like skating.. I love it! It gives you so much freedom to express so many things, it's so beautiful right?" He smiled passionately.
"Yes exactly!' I laughed. Viktor was so amazing already. He even likes skating.
"So! Looks like we should get these boxes inside, c'mon boys." My mom hurried us along and we eventually got every box into Viktor's new room. My parents left us alone to unpack and we got to talk alone.
"Hey," Viktor said to break the ice, "Do you wanna play the question game?"
"Where we take turns asking questions? Sure. You first." I insisted.
"Personal one, do your parents have the string?"
