Over the years, he's never ceased to suprise me. From the first time I saw him skate, until now. It's been one suprise after another.

The Japanese figure skater Yuri Katsuki is twenty three years old and he's crushed the pre skating championship and alot more compititions, including the grand pre finals. Yuri is my idol, he's a figure skating legend.

Then theres me, I was there to skate in my first grand pre final. And I blew it!

My name is Victor Nikiforov, and at twenty seven I was one of the diamond dozen figure skaters certified by the RSF. At my very first grand pre, I came in last place. I'm still trying to get over that. Why me?

"Victor, you're not getting any better over the years." My coach, Yakov sighed, pinching between his eyes. "I'm afraid I'm going to have to stop coaching you."

"But....Yakov, just give me more time! I can get better. I prom-"

"No, I've given you several chances, you just aren't improving. And you're already twenty seven, you should retire. Lay low. Relax."

"Yakov plea-"

"No Victor, good bye."

And just like that, he left. I had no coach, nobody.

For days, I laid in bed. Wondering what I should do with my life.

That's when I got a call from a friend from a skating rink.

"Hi Victor!" He said cheerily.
"Hi Yurio." I sighed.
"Aren't you back in Russia? You should come visit and practice!"
"I... I dunno. I mean, I failed everyone's expectations and-"
"Nonsense! Come on down, me and Otabek will be expecting you. Bye!"
"But-"

He hung up.

Guess I'm going.

Yurio---his actual name is Yuri, but I nicknamed him Yurio to avoid confusion with Yuri Katsuki---and Otabek are my childhood friends, who have also admired Yuri with me. Yurio is fifteen, but he lives with Otabek, who is eighteen.

I've gained about fifteen pounds after I was dropped by Yakov. It's been hard. I ran to the skating rink near my house for the first time in weeks.

Yurio was putting up skating gear when I arrived.

"Sorry, but we're closed. Maybe you can come back tommorrow!" He turned around and saw me, "Oh hey Victor! You wanna skate?"
"I uh..."
"Of course you do!" He smiled and grabbed my hand, dragging me along into the rink.

"Okay!" Yurio said after I got my gear on, "Show me what you've got."

"Actually, I have something to show you. I've been working on it for a little while.."

"Okay, show me." He smiled.

Yurio was always encouraging me, he's an outgoing kid. He has blonde hair that would touch his shoulders if he actually wore it down. Otabek does his hair most of the time. That day, Yurio had a single braid down to his pony tail.

"Well... Okay..." I skated out to the center of the rink.

I began skating one of Yuri's top and best skating routines. I've been practicing it for a while.

"VICTOR!" Yurio cried, "That was amazing! So beautiful!" Tears were streaming down his face when I finally finished.

"Calm down." Otabek laughed.
"Beka! Hi! You saw that right?" Yurio smiled cheerily. He then paid his attention to his phone for a little while.
"Yeah. Look, Victor, you have some real talent. Don't retire, please." Otabek said, as he walked on the ice and patted me on the back.
"Okay." I grinned. Honestly, I didn't want to kill my skating dreams.
"You don't mind that I videoed you right?" Yurio asked showing me his phone.
"Ah, no. I'm good with it." I answered.
"Great. Cause I posted it five minutes ago."
"WHAT?! I didn't say you could post it!" I skated over to him and looked at the video.
"Yeah! It already has over ten thousand views! It's viral!" Yurio chuckled, proud of himself.
"Yurio delete it!" I begged.
"Oh no. Twenty seven thousand now."
"Delete!"
"I can't! Everyone already saw it! The damage is done. I'm sorry." Yurio scratched his arm in pity.

I sighed in frusteration, "It's okay," I skated over to the edge of the rink and began taking my skates off. "I mean, what's the worst that could happen right?"
"The comments." Otabek had his phone out now, scrolling up and down. He approached me and showed me the screen.

Yuri Katsuki: ...

"What does 'dot dot dot' mean? My anxiety overwhelmed me. Does he hate me because I technically copied him and I went viral with his work?

I waved Yurio and Otabek goodbye and jogged home. I'd spent maybe eight hours at the skating rink and now it was late at night, around eleven.

I arrived home to see a mysterious person covered in snow and a shawl.
"Um, hello?" I wiped some of the snow from their shoulders. They must've been here for more than an hour. I decided to invite them inside. I mean, I was hoping they weren't a masked murderer.

I made warm tea and sat them down in my living room.
They took a sip, holding the hot mug with their mittens, and made a tsk sound.
"Did you burn your tongue?"
"Yes." They answered. I flinched at their voice. They hadn't talked all night, but it was obvious that he was male. It was so familiar but I couldn't place it.
I went to go get ice, and came back to see that the man was taking off his layers of clothes.

He turned, "Oh, thanks." He walked over and took the ice cube, placing it in his mouth.

"Funny, you almost look like Yuri Katsuki." I joked. He did, he had Yuri's black hair and big brown eyes. They even had the same glasses.
"I've never heard that before." The man smirked, hiding a smile. "Really? You two could be twins." "Twins?" The man repeated.
"Yeah. Say, what's your name?" I said, now leaning against the wall, facing him.
"Yuri Katsuki." The man answered.
"Oh cool." I smiled, then realized that I'm an idiot. "Wait what?"
"My name is Yuri Katsuki, and I am your new coach." Yuri announced.

My idol was standing right in front of me, yet I stayed completely still. What now?
