"Are you all right? How could you read it? What did the parchment say?"
Ura's voice was curious, and only slightly probing, but I could see in his eyes that he was dying to know what the paper had said. Around us, the rest of the thieves, Raman and Mryen also stood, obviously curious.
"Castiel," I stopped, realising that most of them didn't know him "uh, a friend," I corrected myself "a friend I thought I had lost wrote that. It is written in the language of my homeland, so I can read it," I explained as best as I could without telling them "hey, I'm from the future, and now I can't get back home". The looks on their faces showed that they didn't understand.
I cleared my throat, turning to Ura.
"I need to travel to Hattusa," I told him, looking around at the other thieves.
"You guy's up for it? I'll need all the help I can get, and it's not like I know where Hattusa is," I said, chuckling a little.
They looked at one another, silently communicating with their eyes, and then Rafa spoke up.
"What do you take us for, Ari? A bunch of no-good ruffians?" the guys all laughed at the truth in his words.
"No, of course were going to come along, right, boss?" he addressed Ura who merely nodded. Satisfied with the response, he continued, "besides, with you around, I don't think we'll have a boring day again," he sniggered, gesturing around at the chaos I was responsible for and again the guys laughed.
I glared at him playfully, and turned to address Raman and Mryen.
"Im sorry for the damage we caused," I said, looking at them sheepishly.
"It is alright. Any friend of Castiel's is a friend of ours. He helped us a lot in the past. This is a little thing, no tables were broken, merely knocked over, and the cups and plates are easily replaced," Mryen replied, smiling at me.
"So, you wish to travel Hattusa? I wish you luck, it is not an easy journey. Will you leave now, or stay the night?' said Raman, business like.
I looked up at Ura, and we too, had a silent discussion with our eyes.
"Yes, we would like to stay the night. We will leave tomorrow morn, after breakfast," I informed him, and he smiled in reply.
"Good, good, follow me, I will take you to your rooms," he exclaimed and began making his way to the back of the Inn with us trailing behind.
He showed us to rooms which held beds covered in pillows. I was so grateful at finally being able to sleep on a real bed, that I ran to it, removed my shoes and Baxter and jumped onto the bed. Travelling, the fight, and finding out about Castiel had all left me exhausted, and I was asleep before my head hit the pillow.
I awoke in the morning to the songs of the birds, and for a moment, I thought I was back in my room in the Pack. Following the normal routine I had back them, I reached out my arm, groping around looking for either Requiem or Sebastien, but there was only air.
I looked at the place where they should have been, and reality hit. I wasn't in the Pack house. I was in some ancient country called Mitanni, in an Inn with a bunch of thieves, and a Wolf that was currently M.I.A. It sounded unreal.
My life had changed so dramatically in the last week, that the true reality had only just caught up to me now. Tears were threatening to spill, but the sound of my name being called gave me something to latch onto. I was here, and I had things to do. There was no time for tears.
"Ariana! It's time to go," the voice was louder this time, and more urgent. Quickly, I wore the boots I had left on the floor and picked up Baxter, making my way out to where the guys were.
They were all in the room with the tables, all rested, and well fed. Mryen offered me breakfast, but I refused. I wanted to get to Hattusa as soon as possible.
We left like school children in an orderly line. Ura, ever the leader, was in front, and I brought up the rear. One by one they passed through the doors, till it was my turn at last.
At the same time I was going out, a man was coming in. For some reason, as we grew closer, a strong sense of nostalgia hit me in the stomach. As we passed, it felt like I was saying goodbye forever to an old friend.
We would have kept walking, each our own separate ways, but the universe works in mysterious ways. As I passed him, my foot slipped on a loose rock on the ground. Instinctively, I reached out and grabbed hold of the nearest thing to me to keep balance. That 'thing' was the man.
When we touched, it was like fireworks, but not like how it felt to touch my mates. No, this was a different sensation. This was that peculiar euphoric sadness one felt when they visited a place that they hadnt been in years. All the happiness of reunion coupled with the melancholy of time passing.
I froze, turning to look at him, and he at me. Recognition lit both of our eyes, but it was Celeste, who said his name.
"...."
