The journey would take three days from where we were, I was told.
Ura and his thieves were on their way to Mitanni with some booty they had 'acquired' and knew some people that would pay a hefty price for some of the stuff.
They didn't tell me what exactly they had plundered, or where they were coming from, but then of course it wasn't as if we were best friends who told each other everything.
Today was the second day of the journey. We had travelled for most of yesterday, only stopping so I could train them and then make camp for the night.
I had awoken to the smell of some kind of food being served. It smelled like beans, but the scent was a bit off, and made me feel a little queasy.
One of the older thieves approached me with a bowl and pushed it into my lap with a broad wooden spoon.
"Here, lady, Ura said to give you food. And that he wanted you to start your training again as soon as you were done," he said, giving me lopsided grin that did wonders for his face.
"You gave Kai a right thrashing. The idiots cocky, but one of our strongest. You're pretty amazing," his voice held awe which had me feeling uncomfortable.
As Luna, I was looked up to back home, but still, I was much weaker than the average Were. Here, I was seen as someone great, and I felt unworthy of his praise.
I finished my meal, and noted that I needed to take over cooking duty if these guys wanted to reach Mitanni before giving themselves food poisoning. The food was barely edible, and sorely in need of some spice.
"Ariana. It's time to begin training," called out the boy with the jet black hair, and liquid gold eyes. His name, he had told me with a gorgeous smile on his face, was Rafa eil. But he usually went by Rafa.
In modern day English, his name would be Raphael, like the Archangel. An angelic name, for an equally angelic looking boy.
I made my way to the group of men that surrounded him, not weary as I would have been back home. After fighting Kai, I figured that if they all fought more or less the same way, I could easily take them.
Funnily enough, Kai was not amongst the group, hadn't been yesterday, either. I had a hilarious vision of him with cat ears and a tail, sitting in some corner and licking his wounds.
He was too cocky for his own good, and I hoped that he saw that now. Otherwise, no amount of 21st century fighting techniques could help him.
The men looked at me expectantly, and none catcalled or leered as I expected. They had obviously learnt from Kai's mistake. There was hope for them yet.
I started them off the same way Castiel had with me after doing strength training.
Speed.
It was without doubt the most important thing to improve as a fighter.
It didn't matter how good you were with a sword, if you couldn't move fast enough to avoid a blow, you were dead.
I learnt that lesson pretty quickly after Castiel had me spar with him to see where I was at. The man moved like mist. I literally could only ever hit his shadow in the beginning.
These guys didn't seem to catch on as quickly as I had, as they were obviously used to taking down their enemy's with relentless attacks and brute strength.
It took a while, but I managed to make them see the error of their ways after flooring each one a couple dozen times. Nothing teaches you a lesson better than having it beat into you.
By the time we had finished, the sun was at its peak, and pounding down on us furiously. All around me, sweaty male bodies shed clothing in a futile attempt to cool down.
Their toned chests were covered in sand which had been blow onto them by the near inexistent breeze, and held their by their sweat.
I was covered in sand too, but there was no way I would take off my tank in front of them. It was then I remembered that I had a small electric fan in my duffel bag.
Rene had gotten it for me, as we didn't know exactly where I would end up, and chances were it would be hot. I had been a bit worried to take so many modern things with me-surely we were not meant to reveal things of the future to people of the past.
I said so to Rene, who merely laughed at me.
"Do you honestly think that you're the first to go back in time? Time works in mysterious ways. If it is not meant to be seen, it will not be seen. Please don't underestimate the power of Time," and that was the end of our conversation.
I grabbed my duffel bag and searched inside it to retrieve the mini battery-powered fan that was inside. It was an obnoxious hot pink colour, courtesy of Rene, and had also been enchanted so that the battery would never run out. You had to love Rene. The girl had thought of everything.
Switching the fan on, I angled it to blow on my face and sighed in relief. Having spent the majority of my life in a cell, I was used to the cold.
My eyes were closed as I basked in the simple pleasure the fan gave me, when I felt a lot of people around me, staring.
I snapped my eyes open, and sure enough, there they were. The entire group of guys I had been training were staring at me, eyes wide, and lusting.
I quickly realised that it wasn't me they were lusting after but the 'strange' contraption in my hands.
"What is that thing?"
"How can it harness the Great Storm God's power to create wind?"
"What sorcery is this?!"
Multiple voices shouted out at me from all directions, overwhelming me. I let it continue for about two more seconds before I exploded.
"Stop! People, stop! Maybe if you can all be quiet for a second, I can explain what the hell this is," I shouted, shoving the fan into the air and waving it about in their faces.
Immediately, all noise halted, and since we were in the middle of the desert, there was no background noise, which meant I was standing there in utter silence with all eyes on me, all amused.
Could someone please pass me a shovel? I thought desperately as I slowly brought my arm down, extremely embarrassed at my little scene.
"Uh-hum," I cleared my throat.
"This," I said holding the fan in front of me "is a fan. From where I come from, people use them to cool down when it gets hot. Okay? It's not sorcery, just clever thinking".
I was about to offer to let them use it, but someone beat me to it.
"Can I try it?" Called a voice from my left. The voice was familiar. Looking left I saw why, it was Ura.
He stood there still cloaked, despite the heat, a dark black blob against the cerulean sky.
"Sure," I nodded my head at him and he approached, arm outstretched. I gave it to him, and said "you can keep it".
He had been studying it while I was speaking, so his head snapped up at my words. His eyes showed surprise.
"Really?" He asked, and his voice sounded like a little child who couldn't quite believe what he had just received.
I smiled at him, and nodded my head again. For a second, he looked dazed as he stared at me, before his eyes lit up and he resumed his analysis of the fan.
I left him there, playing with the on/off button, whilst fighting off all the others who wanted to have a go with it. I needed a nap.
As I getting cosy into my makeshift sand bed I heard his voice cry out.
"Get away, you scoundrels, its mine. She gave it to me," which was followed by a dozen "hell no" and "give it here!" remarks.
Chuckling at their antics, I feel asleep.
