Food Network Star Applications Teamomg! I made it!
Graceful is going to be so sad though.
And so will I.
"...And I was like, um why in the world would he like me when he could like..." She pauses and looks at me. "Austy you okay?"
"Oh yea!" I reply slapping on a smile and shutting down my computer. "Just nervous for my date..."
She smiles, "You are so beautiful and kind Austyn, I have no doubt in my mind that this will go well." She fluffs up a couple curls. "I think you are set!"
I glance at myself in the mirror. The shirt hugs my baby curves, and my waist as the skirt dances around my legs. My eyes pop over the rest of my face, I have on a light smoky eye, and loads of mascara, and a bit of eyeliner. Then I put on peachy lipstick.
"Okay." I say, grabbing my wallet. "Let's go watch a soccer game."
__________
I walk up to the field, and take a spot in the middle, halfway up. That way I can see everything. Graceful sits next to me and starts munching on strawberries.
"You just happen to bring a container of strawberries?" I ask, raising an eyebrow.
"I already had my cheat food, your cupcake." She says pointing a finger at me.
I put my hands up in defense, "hey! at least you get Best Friend Freebies!"
Someone blows a whistle and the game starts, London Wildcats vs London Eagles. The Eagles take over the game quickly, which makes me frown a little. They have more attempted goals than actually ones though, our goalie is very good.
Score: 1-0 Eagles
Then about a quarter into the game, Micheal gets subbed in, taking the place as starting offense. That's when something clicks between the whole team. He approaches the net, and shoots to the striker, who gets the goal!
Score: 1-1 Tie
"Yea!!!! Wahoo!" Graceful and I cheer, as everyone around us starts screaming and cheering. Eventually we sit down, and quiet down, but you can here the tension about three quarters into the game. The Micheal is approaching the goal, but the striker isn't in a good position, the defense is coming right at him. He kicks in in the net, right past the goalies face. Score!
Score: 2-1 Wildcats.
There are five minutes left and the Eagles are approaching our goalie. Defense is doing a pretty good job of holding them back but one player slipped through, the ball goes over the left defenders head.
Three minutes.
The defender head bumps the ball, and it does in front of him, but is swept away by the player he was trying to hold off. They are just a few feet away from the goal.
One minute.
The right defender runs in and kicks the ball into the center of the field.
tweet tweet tweeeeet.
"Games over!" I announce. Graceful and I creep out of the bleachers as people are still cheering.
"Go get 'em tiger." Graceful says giving me a hug. "Love you."
"Love you too." I say, turning my attention to the field. I wait patiently as people approach Micheal, and congratulate him and such. He did do a fantastic job, I can see why that other school wants him. I decide to text my dad about the email.
Me: hey Dad, sorry to interrupt your work. we have something to discuss when you have a free night.
Dad: we can go out to eat tomorrow night.
Yep, just as I thought. Daughter needs to talk to Father, and he can't even talk to her until the day after today. Come on mom, why did you have to go, you would be home right now. You would have taken a photo of me and Graceful and helped me with all my scrapbooks that I have of each location.
You would have stopped us from living this way in the first place.
I look at my toes, studying my brown boots. The crowd thins as people start to go home. The team comes over in one big heap, and a few girls run up to their boyfriends. I stay patiently, waiting for Micheal. He shakes the hand of a man in a suit, and two other older men shake his hand too. Maybe that's his Dad and the Coach... huh.
"Hey, sorry I am behind." Michel says, running over and grabbing my hand. We start walking to the car. "You look really good tonight." I smile.
"You played really well tonight." His face falters, then returns to normal.
"Thanks."
"So..." I twist my finger around the bottom of my skirt. "What's the plan for tonight?"
"Dinner and party." He says with a half smile.
"Sounds perfect." I respond. We walk half awkwardly to the car, I have not clue if this is a date or just hanging out. I slide in the passengers seat, and he gets in the drivers seat, tossing his duffel in the back. He rubs his thumb in small circles on my thigh. It's weirdly calming. I can tell he his thinking hard about something. So am I. I have no clue if I should tell him about the email not not.
"I have something I need to tell you." We blurt at the exact same time.
