Chapter Two
"YOU'RE LYING" Amy shouted, catching the attention of the entire corridor.
I shook my head, grinning at her traumatized face.
"NOPE. NO, NO, NOO. THERE IS NO WAY THIS IS TRUE"
I laughed at her disbelief, even though she didn't find this funny.
"STOP LAUGHING THIS IS SERIOUS. YOU CAN'T JUST HAPPEN TO BE WORKING ON SET OF OUR FAVOURITE TALENT SHOW!?"
"You better believe it."
"YOU'RE BULLSHITTING, STOP IT"
A few first years at their lockers quickly scurried away, probably frightened of my insane friend, I don't blame them.
"Amy, you have to calm down you're scaring first years."
"CALM DOWN!? I CAN'T CALM DOWN, THIS IS THE MOST EXCITING THING THAT'S EVER HAPPENED TO US"
"Besides the hottest guy in school having a thing for you last year?"
You could notice the exact moment her face went from static to angry.
"PLEASE DO NOT CHANGE THE SUBJECT TO SOMETHING I WOULD RATHER DIE THAN TALK ABOUT,"
"As long as you keep this secret and stop yelling we can talk it over."
"Oh! Right, right. Sorry." She whispered, going along with the whole secret thing. Amelia has been obsessed with secret agent shows and books for years, it's her dream to become one.
"Oh my God, you could meet a boy! A SINGER! A SINGER BOY! A SUPER HOT SINGER BOY WHO-"
"Shhh! Amy, we must keep this quiet. And it's not like any singer boy is going to notice the annoying useless crew member,"
It was comforting to see the light of hope in her eyes.
"Just you wait and see."
I was so lucky to have a friend like Amelia. She's a fangirl, she's emotional, she's fun, she's loyal, and she's the long lost friend I've waited for. She lied to my math teacher as to why I wouldn't be at the test, something she didn't at all have to do, but she wanted to do anything she could to help. And anything that'll make her feel like she's in a frickin' spy movie.
That night as we sat in our cosy bedroom, I admired the coloured lantern lights and different posters on the walls. They consisted of various boy bands and shows, shirtless actors and fictional characters.
Amy babbled on about the escape plan, which we didn't even need since Mrs. Higgins had already sorted it out with the school... but Amy didn't know that. She was acting like an undercover operative, attempting to sneak out of jail. But I guess whatever makes her feel alive is worth doing.
"Okay so here's the plan. I'll wake up normal time and I'll go to classes informing teachers that you are sick. You can sleep in till 1:30, since that's break time it'll be harder to be caught because all the teachers will be in that bloody staffroom, drinking their bloody coffee and complaining about their bloody miserabl-"
"Amelia."
"Sorry, you know how I am when it comes to teachers."
Amy has had serious teacher issues since primary school, through the years they'd accuse her of things more and more.
"Anyway, back to the plan... they will be too busy drinking their stupid coffee to notice you, so you can make it safely to the car park without being spotted."
She threw her arms into the air.
"Am I a genius or am I a genius?"
"You're the biggest genius I know."
Playing along with this is actually kind of fun.
"Thank you" She responded confidently, flashing me a proud smile.
We went silent for a little while, while I twirled my hair around my finger and Amy got up to grab her favourite necklace.
"Hey, don't miss me too much while I'm gone tomorrow" I teased, watching her as she spun round and glared at me.
"Me? Miss you? Pffft, I'll be having the time of my life back here at school, surrounded by boys who throw roses at my feet..." I took me a bit of effort to hold in my laugh.
"So what you're trying to say is, you'll be back here, lying on your bed, eating chocolate and watching Supernatural?" She laughed.
"Oh you just know me too well; I won't watch any without you though." She didn't sound very convincing.
"You better not." I ordered, taking a sip of tea.
"It's Thursday night, you wanna go out and do something?"
"You're kidding, right?"
Amy and I aren't even close to the party type. I wish we were, but the two of us tend to stay in and watch movies and shows. Come to think of it, we don't have the most interesting lives.
"You and me? Go out? Out at night? Are you okay there friend?"
She was dead serious.
"We practically spend our lives in this crappy room, all the other girls go out!"
I have a feeling that we've had this conversation before.
"Why the sudden change of heart? I thought you were proud that we didn't do stupid things, since stupid is what has fucked us up in the past."
She looked sad, Amy has had quite the difficult past with her strict parents and set rules.
"I guess I'm just bored, you know? Maybe you and me are so fascinated with characters of books and shows because they live such brilliant lives. I just want an adventure."
I sighed and lifted myself up to sit next to her.
"I want to go out, I really do. But to be honest it kind of scares me. When high school is over and we go to college you and me and go out and be those girls. You will have an adventure Amy. Maybe not today, or tomorrow, but you will have your adventure."
I put my arm around her and gave her a hopeful smile.
"I promise."
