Chapter Six
I caught up on the auditions I needed to bring through, but didn’t see Louis or his family again. I really hope he got through, it’s driving me crazy that I missed seeing it.
The long day went by quickly.
I met groups and adults and nervous to cocky teenagers, all just minutes away from attempting to bring their dreams to life.
Unfortunately I didn’t get to see any of the judges, but never the less I had a brilliant day.
We finished at 8 P.M, staff were packing up and moving things into safe areas for Sunday’s auditions,
I wish I was here tomorrow too, but sadly my pass is a one day gift.
I signed out and gave my uniform, pass, and communicator in. I was thanked by one of the crew managers as I headed out the open back doors.
I was stopped when a hand on my shoulder spun me around.
“Hey,”
A brown eyed boy stood there, probably in his mid-20’s, holding a silver camera stand.
“Are you the crew member who helped carry Miss Sydney Blakely into the first aid after she fainted?”
“You mean the short blonde girl with the bows?”
“…Yes,”
“Is she okay!? I didn’t see her come out? Did she audition? Was the concussion harmful? Did we get her to the first aid in time??”
He was taken aback by my sudden concern,
“I assure you she is fine, and got through to bootcamp with a throbbing concussion. It was big news on the cameras,”
“Ugh,” I scoffed.
“Poor girl, do you seriously have to make a story out of every little accident?”
He sighed like he’d heard it all before.
“I did not come here to discuss and bicker about the controversial works of my job. I came here to ask for your name, since you appear on camera carrying Sydney in.”
“Wait, wait, wait,”
I gestured my hands in front of me, stopping him from continuing.
“You got me on camera?”
“Well, yes. That’s why I came to ask for your name,”
I stared at him, baffled.
“Uh, um, Jasmin Lovelock?”
“Are you unsure of your own name?”
I shook my head quickly,
“Of course not, I’m still a little bewildered by the fact that I’m going to be on tv.”
“They all are at first, thank you for your time. I’ll be seeing you at bootcamp.”
He gave me a friendly ‘we’re done here’ smile and walked away.
“Wait, uhm, sir? guy? Wait a second,”
He was grinning when he turned around to look at me again, ‘sir, guy’’ how professional.
“I’m not going to bootcamp, today was my last and only day of experience,”
He turned around and continued to walk, his grin still lurking on his face.
“I guess we’ll have to do something about that now, won’t we.”
❅ ❅ ❅
I walked to the train station, the moonlight gazing over the elegant buildings near the city centre. The walk was nice, even though the cold was practically melting my fingers off, I enjoy seeing my breath in the air.
Wish I bought a scarf or something warm though.
Arriving at the station I sat down on the shaded seat and read a timing sign,
15 minutes
I really hope no one dodgy comes down the station stairs, I’m not really in the mood to make a run for it.
Newly 18 year old girl, alone at 8 PM, just outside a city all alone.
Times like this I wish the small train stop was underground, the central city one has food stalls and damn could I use some chips. (And some security so I wouldn’t feel so vulnerable)
With nothing to do but gaze at the cloudy sky, I closed my eyes for a second. Feeling my skin suck in the cold air.
With a mind black as the sky this time of night, I heard it.
‘Let’s waste time, Chasing Cars... around our heads.’
I jumped out of my seat. Eyes wide, alert.
Those words, those same words. Where did they come from? Every time my mind is closed off from the world. They appear. They're just words. But hearing things in your sleep and when you’re awake is never a good sign.
Whether it’s real or not.
The train came 5 minutes early, I sat in the front carriage across from a couple. They played with each other's hair and shared a jacket, one headphone for each. Watching them made me feel lonely, as I felt seeing any happy couple acting like they were in a fluff fic written by a 12 year old. The last time I was close to having a boyfriend things went terribly wrong,
I pushed the thought to the back of my head and imagined Amy’s reaction to finding out I get caught on camera, and if I really do get called back for bootcamp. ‘Don’t get your hopes up’ the wise words of my old best friend.
The train arrived at my stop in less than half an hour, I passed the couple and entered the cold air.
School was only a five minute walk away, but it was dark. Really dark. I clenched to my blue bag and crossed the train tracks.
A minute had passed when I finally came into contact with some people, from the ten metres distance I could hear them laughing. I could hear glass being slammed together and shattered, and the voices of men. Drunk, older men.
I tightened my fists,
Ignore me, ignore me, ignore me
Even in the dark it was clear. One giant lamp post shined over the group of guys and one clouded over me, signalling me out to the six that sat now watching me.
“Hey, girl!”
I didn’t look at him.
Keep walking, keep walking
“Join us!”
I picked up the pace of my steps, but they were all standing now. I watched from the corner of my left eye as they glared at me.
“You’ll have a good time,”
The other five snickered, and the tall one walked towards the road, he crossed.
“We’re got drinks!”
They teased me, and I got faster. All were close now, on my side of the road.
“Don’t run away girl, we’re only trying to have a good time!”
I sprinted. One last look behind at the pack of wasted drunks and I was gone, around the corner.
They didn’t chase me.
