Ashton

The bright glare blinded me. I felt a sharp pain everywhere, I didn't dare move. I was scared that I would worsen whatever was paining me. Oddly I was wet too. I didn't have the slightest idea why I was wet. Or why I was in pain. What did I do? Sky dive?

I was hearing a lot of voices around me. But I wouldn't make out what exactly they were saying. I was just making out words but even those words I could barely comprehend.

Critical

Not stable

Broken...

Difficult recovery

Head Trauma

None of these terms made no correlation in my head, I only hoped that they weren't bad. I felt my body go up a level, and I felt myself falling back into the abyss. Put somehow there I was okay with that. It was quieter and darker. I didn't have to worry about terms and words that I didn't know the meaning of.

****

You know how in those movies somebody suffers from amnesia and they yell at whatever poor soul was unlucky enough to be in the room at the time.

I didn't do that. I didn't recognize anybody around me. I was surrounded by unfamiliar faces, but judging by the way that they were looking at me, I just assumed that we had some sort of significant relationship. My eyes rested on an older dark skinned woman and the instant eye contact had her burst into tears. To say the least I was still in a state of shock. I wasn't prepared for the tears.

"My son..." She said softly and grabbed my hand and kissed it. I didn't know what else to do but squeeze back. I had know clue if she knew that I didn't know who she was. But from her demeanor to the way she reacted when she saw me open my eyes, I can tell that she was significant. So I'll give her a small peace of mind.

The doctor chose that moment to come in.

"I was wondering when you were going to get up"  Thats an unconventional way to greet someone but who was I to talk. The woman holding your hand did the glaring for me. "Mr. Foster, to say the least you've been out for a while" I opened my mouth to say something but it came out as croak.

"How long was I out?" I managed to say. I was most interested in what caused me to be in the hospital in the first place. And where are my memories.

"About 8 weeks, your probably wondering how you got here" He looked around in the room, like he was going to get a plethora of approval.

Yes nigga, spit it out.

"You were in a car accident. A pretty bad one. You were with a young lady and both you and her suffered some pretty severe head trauma. But as the other injuries go, you got it worst. It was almost like you protected the young lady from getting more hurt." That was more traumatic than what I was imagining. Which wasnt much.

What about the young lady?

"The young lady was taken to a different hospital to be treated, after initial surgery" I take back everything bad I said about this doctor. He could read minds. "We have to do more tests on you now that you are awake. But based on previous tests done on you, your memories are compromised, and probably permanently gone"

Whoa, I wasn't expecting that all at once. The lady who I'm assuming was my mother spoke.

"Doctor, please, let him process whats going on. We can talk about his condition later." The doctor simply nodded and walked out. I fell back into my pillow.

Permanent memory lost?!

It wasn't like I was incompetent. I still remembered things cognitively, I could speak, and I still had the ability to figure things out. But my memories were wiped. I couldn't remember anything. No faces. No moments. No nothing. And I couldn't help but think that I had a life. I was planning something out and now I cant even continue that because I cant remember one thing.

I turned to the woman holding me hand.

"Whats my first name?"
