CHAPTER 15: CATCHING FEELINGS
# MERCEDES #
Mrs. Basi was sitting across us in the living room. Hugh, Tony, Michael and I told her the story. I tried to tell her it was my fault, but Michael always diverts it.
Everyone in the house was gathered since they were present during the fire and they get to know the verdict of Mrs. Basi about us.
"I expected more from an honor student like you, Mercedes," Mrs. Basi said sternly. "How could you be so reckless, to test out something like a rocket in an attic?"
Her gaze made me look at my shoes. "It was my fault, Mrs. Basi," Hugh spoke up. "Mercedes suggested that we test it out in the oval, but I insisted in the attic."
Mrs. Basi sighed. "I'm disappointed in you too, Mr. Norman," she said. Hugh frowned. "So I've made my decision."
I was shaking. I didn't want to get expelled. I didn't want Tony, Hugh or even Michael to be expelled; especially Michael. He's protecting me too much, I don't deserve it.
"None of you will be expelled," Mrs. Basi said which causes relied to flush through my body. "But," she looked at us. "The entire house will be detained tomorrow."
Everyone groaned, and I felt bad because it was my fault that this is happening to us.
I frowned. Detention on a Sunday sucks, that means we stay in the library the whole day. We couldn't go out, not even for lunch. Just bathroom breaks.
"And," she continued. "I'll be extending your community service until November. The entire house."
Everyone groaned again. I feel really awful now. I hate myself for this. Damn it.
Community service is when we go to an elderly home or orphanage to help every Sunday. It's a part of our grade. Usually, this is only a month but Mrs. Basi made it to 2.
"Last thing," Mrs. Basi added. "Your house is disqualified in the house project cup. You're all obligated to take the mid-terms." Everyone groaned again.
"That's it," she concluded. "Good day, students." She got up and left the house.
When she was completely out of sight, everyone started to get up and part ways to do whatever they heck they wanted on a Saturday.
I got up from the couch. "Guys, I'm sorry!" I blurted out. Everyone stopped to look at me. "I built the engine, but I never expected it to go on fire. I'm so sorry!"
"Mercedes," Ashton spoke first. "We know you didn't mean to set the attic on fire. You, Hugh and Tony... But that doesn't stop us from getting upset. You guys got us all into this mess. We're sorry too, but a little cool-off space, okay?"
I sighed and nodded as they all dispersed. "I'm gonna convince my step-sister to forgive us," Tony got up from the couch. "Don't worry guys. Frankie will be cool."
Tony left the living room, leaving me and Michael. I sighed and put my hand on my face. I felt a hand on my shoulder and saw that Michael gave me a sad smile.
"Don't be too hard on yourself," he gave me a weak smile. "It was an accident. You're sorry, that's all that matters." I nodded, smiling slightly at him. Michael wrapped his arms around me and kissed my forehead.
I felt myself blush as I felt Michael's lips against my skin. No, we're supposed to take things slow. I just forgave him last night.
I don't know why, but some new feeling is boiling right now. I've never been this close to Michael, with full consent, but it's not just that.
