CHAPTER 18: DRAMA AND DETENTION
# MICHAEL #
"You know why you're all here," Mrs. Flores, the vice-principal, stood in-front of us. "It is because you're all delinquents. You have brought disgrace to this proud institution."
We were all in the Connaissance Library for detention. The entire house. We'll be here the whole day, we can't go out except when we need to take a wazz.
"You know the rules," Mrs. Flores said. "No talking, no going outside, no funny business. You just have to sit here and do homework. Questions?”
“Madame Flores,” India raised her hand. “What if we need to—“ Mrs. Flores cut her off. “Me parler en anglais, Butler!” Mrs. Flores growled in French. “N'a pas votre grand-mère vous parler en français?”
India sunk in her seat. I could tell that she was embarrassed even though I have no idea what Mrs. Flores just sassed her about.
I leaned closer to Mercedes, who understood French better, so I can figure it out.
“What did Mrs. Flores say to India?” I asked her. “She just told her to talk to her in French,” Mercedes answered. “because that’s what her grandmother taught her.”
“NO TALKING!” Mrs. Flores yelled, glaring at me and Mercedes so we both kept quiet. She then turned to India. “Ce que vous disiez?” she spoke.
India sighed. “Que faire si nous avons besoin d'utiliser les toilettes?” she asked. Mrs. Flores sighed and stood on the front.
“If you JUVENILES,” she emphasized the last word and it sounded weird with her French accent. “need to answer the call of nature, there is a restroom behind the mystery section inthe library.”
“Wait,” Frankie said. “You’re making us use the haunted restroom?” Oh, right. I remember now. Mrs. Flores looked at Frankie in disbelief.
“Deal with it, Perry,” she snapped. “Just because you’re Ms. Football Superstar, that doesn’t mean you should diva your way to a Plaza Hotel bathroom.”
Frankie raised her hands. “But I wasn’t—“ she was cut off. “Quiet, Perry,” she said and Frankie shut up.
“For lunch time,” she continued. “There are vending machines in the library so none of you can go out till 4pm. That’s it. I’ll be in the room, right across. So goodbye.”
Mrs. Flores exited the library, leaving me and the rest of the house in the library. We have nothing to do, but homework. Homework, my mind repeated. I hate homework.
“Crap!” Frankie cussed as her phone started to ring. “Turn it off!” Tony, her step-brother, sneered. “I am!” she whisper-yelled. “It’s Earl!” Ashton rolled his eyes.
“Press the reject button, Frankie!” he growled. Frankie glared at him and answered her phone.
“Earl, hey... Swimming session?” Frankie’s eyes widened as Earl talked on the other line. "Dammit! I forgot to tell you about detention.. Oh..." They kept talking and I could see irritation written all over Ashton's face.
"Right.. Tomorrow then... See you," Frankie hung up and threw the phone back to her bag. "Swimming," she informed us what was up. "Earl invited me."
