CHAPTER 19: THE WALLFLOWER AND DETENTION
# BELLE #
I finished all my homework and I have nothing to do, so I looked around and tried not to make myself look like a lonely brute.
Frankie was at the back with Tony and Hugh. It looked like she was tearing a book to shreds with her bare hands. She was probably taking her anger towards Ashton out on it. Tony and Hugh were too occupied to mind her so yeah.
Mercedes and Michael were on the table before them. They were smiling and talking. Funny how a week ago, it seemed like Mercedes hated him. Now, they seem to be in good terms. Michael's full-on flirting with her and she's going along with it.
India looked like she was having the time of her life with Calum. She was laughing and smiling and talking. She and Calum were also flirting a bit but when they weren't talking, she seemed to be having an internal battle with herself. She's quite an unusual, if I say so.
Ashton was looking at Frankie from time to time. He was frowning and it seemed like he was debating whether to go to her or not. It was simply saying that it bothered him a lot, when he fought with Frankie. Well, they're Best Friends so yeah.
"Hey," a deep, Australian-like voice spoke and I jumped at it. I turned to see Luke smiling sheepishly. "Mind if I sit?" He pointed at the chair India used to occupy.
I nodded and he sat down. There was tension and awkward silence which made it difficult for me to think. Was he here to talk about the kiss? Aleisha? To try and save our friendship?
Because if it's about his ex, I'll probably not care. I know I shouldn't be jealous of Aleisha because before I even liked Luke, he was already in-love with her but my heart was making me feel jealous.
"Listen," Luke broke the silence. "About yesterday, I--" It was the kiss. "---I'm sorry, Belle," he said. "That kiss, you and I both know, was an accident." DUH, Luke. DUH.
"We're just friends," he continued. "That kiss was a mistake. I don't want it to ruin our friendship, Belle."
I looked at him and nodded. "I don't want it to ruin our friendship either," I told him and he smiled. "Besides," he added. "You know I'm going after Aleisha."
I was alright with his speech, until he mentioned her. The love he has for her makes me sad. She's no longer interested but he's being persistent, not knowing that there are more people out there.
"Belle," Luke made me face him. "Can we just forget about that kiss and be friends again? I don't want it to be awkward. I want us to hang-out and be friends and have adventures."
I smiled slightly and nodded. He beamed. "So," he scratched the back of his neck. "A-are you still helping me with Aleisha?" The question made me frown.
Luke's happy when he's hoping he can still have a chance with his ex-girlfriend. Although it's like a slap in my face, I'd help him.
Forget my happiness and let the friend that I like rejoice at his pursuit of his ex-girlfriend. I looked at Luke and nodded. He smiled and pulled me in for a hug.
"You really are a something, Isabella Reed," he said once he pulled away. "What's that supposed to mean?" I asked him.
"You see things," Luke answered. "You're perspective, no one else notices what you can. You're a wallflower."
I shrugged. "I don't know if that's a good thing or not," I admitted. Luke smiled. "Trust me," he said. "It is a good thing. You see more than what others can and it's cool. I'm glad to have a friend like you."
I felt myself flush at Luke's words. It doesn't matter that he's all over Aleisha, as long as I have him as friend. That's enough for me.
He helped me find a piece of me and I'm going to embrace it. I'm going to embrace my wallflower side and even if it hurts, I'll use it to my advantage and help him with his happiness.
"Échecs," Mrs. Flores entered the room. "Get up and get your selves straight. The vending machines are there. I'm giving you an hour lunch break." She then left.
Luke got up and I ran beside him. "Hey," I told him uneasily. "Let's eat together. Let's also think of a way to get your ex-girlfriend to fall for you again."
